The house
At the moment the room is closed at Les Gérolles. Reservations are possible.
May we introduce ourselves: we are Gerry and Harry van den Brom, from July 1, 2015 the proud owners
of Les Gérolles.
We would like to welcome you at Les Gérolles, situated on a terrain of 3.640 m², at walking distance (± 15 min.) from the biggest river in France, the Loire, to let you enjoy the peace and quiet and our hospitality.
Les Gérolles is situated in the région Auvergne (department Allier) on the border with the Bourgogne, so all tourist attractions in both areas are within reach. The house (old fermette from 1867) is situated in the valley of the Loire, an agricultural area and fairly flat, with on the other side of the river a view of the hills of Burgundy.
Les Gérolles consists of a house, summer kitchen, a partially converted cowshed and a large piece of land.
On the upper floor of the house, accessible by an external stone staircase, are 2 guest rooms connected by a connecting door.

Our grounds are large enough to accommodate 3 spacious camping pitches.
There is also an old pigsty with a summer kitchen for our guests.
In the former cowshed, a recreation room is available for our guests.
Les Gérolles is open from 1 April to 15 October.
If you don't feel like cooking dinner yourself, you can join our Table d'Hotes on several evenings.
We gladly provide a 3-course dinner for you.
On a large part of the site is free wifi available.
No pets allowed

Les Gérolles is situated in the Auvergne region (Allier department) on the border with the Burgundy, so that all tourist attractions in both areas are within reach. The house (old fermette from 1867) is located in the valley of the Loire, an agricultural area and fairly flat, with on the other side of the river a view of the hills of Burgundy.
Since 2-10-2015 the area adjacent to the house has been designated a protected nature reserve (304 hectares, largest in the Allier) under the name Val de Bourbonnais. More information can be found on the website allesfrans.com - Main sections - Allier Toeristich - RNR Val de bourbonnais. This is also a breeding ground for many (migratory) birds.
On 25 km distance lies the protected nature reserve Morvan, famous for its steep slopes, meandering streams, old towns, many lakes and forests. There, tourism has clearly taken off, but at les Gérolles the French farmers and the Charolais cattle are your neighbours.

As a guest of Les Gérolles, you can use a fully equipped kitchen in the old pigsty.
Weather permitting, you can also use the barbecue.
If you don't feel like cooking dinner yourself, you can join us at our Table d'Hotes.
We are happy to prepare a 3-course dinner for you.
In fine weather outside in the garden, in less fine weather in our living room.
To participate in our Table d'Hotes we charge € 15 per person, children up to 12 years € 7.50.
This includes 1 drink and coffee or tea afterwards.
In the vicinity there are also restaurants and bars where you can eat or drink something on a terrace.
Small wine regions such as Saint Pourçain, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Pouilly-Fumé, Sancerre are easy to do as a day trip.

Activities
Within a radius of 10 km, you can play tennis, golf, go horseback riding and canoeing. Also climbing and white water canoeing is possible (Morvan - Bourgogne). For mountain bikers there are VTT-tracks in the Allier, and in the neighbouring Saône et Loire (Bourgogne). Booklets with routes are available in the house.
The Loire region and the Bourgogne are historically and scenically very interesting areas. Besides beautiful cities, you can make beautiful trips through sloping, hilly or mountainous landscape, depending on the wind direction you choose.
Without being exhaustive, we will mention a number of activities or day trips that you can make:
-Hiking trails (GR, and other hiking trails in the Allier and Burgundy)
-(Car or bike) day trips through "Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan" (on the way swimming in one of the many lakes)
-Day trip to the wine regions of the Loire (Touraine, Saumur) or the small wine regions close to home such as Saint Pourçain, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Pouilly-Fumé, Sancerre
-Castle tours in the immediate vicinity. In the Allier alone, there are more than 500 castles, some of which are open to the public.
-Sept-Fons Abbey, large Trappist monastery from 1132, with a shop selling its own products on the premises
-Magne-Court racing circuit near Nevers
-Centre National Costume Scene in Moulins. Costumes used by the Comédie Francaise, Opera de Paris etc.
-Festivals and Medieval feasts in historic surroundings
-Amusement park and zoo "Le Pal", close to home
-Brocantes, brocantes, for the lovers!
