CHAMBRE ÉPICERIE
Are you looking for a nice chambre d'hotes at an affordable price (including a full breakfast for 2 persons) in a beautiful setting with the possibility of using our much praised table d'hotes:
Then our Chambre L'Epicerie is a wonderful address to start or end your holiday. Many of our guests reserve our room to start the first few days of their holiday quietly, or to enjoy a few more days on the way back from a holiday to end it perfectly.
Our cosy chambre is in our Normandy Longère, a house built in the late 1700s early 1800s.
The cosy chambre on the 1st floor with a separate entrance, has a sitting/dining area with a table with 4 chairs, has two single beds (90x200cm), a fridge/minibar, TV (reception of BVN TV and NL radio, among others) possibility of making coffee and tea, and a dresser.
A small bathroom with shower, sink and toilet with plenty of towels and beach towels.
There is WiFi (at no extra cost) with also good coverage on the private terrace.
The car can be parked (at no extra cost) in the closed car park near the Chambre.
Exclusively for our "Chambre" guests there is, in the enclosed garden, a covered terrace with a cosy seating area, sun beds and parasol where, weather permitting, the extensive breakfast is served.
In our 6000m2 garden there is an above-ground heated swimming pool which can be used by guests of our gite as well as guests of the chambre.
Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome.

TABLE D'HOTES.
Of course we offer guests of the chambre the possibility of participating in the table d'hotes, (not suitable for children under 16 years) many of our guests use this on the day of arrival.
So would you like to enjoy a 5-course dinner with matching wines? This is possible three nights a week, served on our covered terrace in fine weather or at our dinner table.

Our Chambre is situated in the countryside, surrounded by vast fields and woods with, among other things, footpaths.
The villages Lieurey and Epaignes are each about 4 km away from the Chambre.
In Lieurey is a supermarket, a simple restaurant, a cafe and a brasserie anex bar/tabac, an ATM, two charging points for electric cars and an excellently maintained municipal tennis court.
In Epaignes there are almost the same facilities as in Lieurey.
The typical French Normandy town of Cormeilles offers a variety of brocante shops and a variety of restaurants.

Comment from Christine en Peter Schrage

Restaurants, food & wine

Normandy has a culinary "rich (and affordable)" cuisine, with excellent original and traditionally "honest" meat, poultry and fish dishes.
The Normandy region is also well known for the production of cider and Calvados. One of the largest producers of this, the Busnel distillery, is 8 km away in Cormeilles, where a guided tour is possible.
Also famous cheeses such as Camembert, Coeur de Neufchatel, Pont Leveque and Livarot. (A wonderful guided tour at one of the biggest producers of this cheese is a special experience).
Several good restaurants in the immediate vicinity: including Auberge du President and Le Florida in Cormeilles, and of course a variety of restaurants in places like Pont Audemer, Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville, not to mention the no. 1 of fish restaurants: l'Authentic in Houlgate,.

Activities

In less than half an hour's drive, you can reach numerous places that are well worth a visit. Such as the Abbey of "Le Bec-Hellouin" (18 km), the beautiful castles of Harcourt (25 km) Beaumesnil (30 km) and Champs-de-Bataille (32 km). The invasion landing areas and beaches of June 1944 such as Sainte-Mère-Église (the paratrooper at the church tower) Omaha Beach, Point du Hoc, Caen, Arromanches, all with their own museums and impressive memorials etc. are at a distance ranging from 1.00 hours to about 1.4 hours.
Historic towns like Honfleur, where famous painters (e.g. Lautrec, Cezane, van Gogh, Boudin incl. his museum) created their masterpieces, with the harbour in the centre and next to it the many art galleries. The famous musician Eric Satie lived and worked here.
Bernay with its quaint antique shops.
Pont Audemer (15 km) with its lively market on Mondays and Fridays, offers the possibility of canoeing and is also called the Venice of Normandy.
Beaches near the well-known towns of Deauville, Trouville, and a little further those of Villers sur Mer, Houlgate and Cabourg.
A day trip to Paris is highly recommended. By train from the station in Bernay (free parking and no tolls and traffic jams) you can reach this city in 1 hour and 30 mins.
The region offers extensive golfing opportunities. At about 15 to 30 automins there are the very beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf courses such as: Golf de St. Gatien, Golf de Deauville, Golf de St. Julien, Golf de Champ-de-Bataille (Le Neubourg) All courses are accessible to CFP holders.
