The house
The house is a typical cozy French countryside house with a ground floor where you'll find the living area with a nice table for long meals and a seating area where you can comfortably relax after a hike or trip to one of the sights.
In the back of the house you'll find our kitchen with a four burner stove, microwave/oven, coffeemaker, hot water kettle etc. Next to the kitchen you'll access the bathroom with a shower, sink and washing machine.
Upstairs you'll find two bedrooms, the large bedroom has a 2 person bed, nightstand, and a large closet for storing your belongings.
The smaller bedroom has two separate beds (but can be put next to each other).
There is also a toilet on this floor which is nice during the night.

Epalle is beautifully located in the Montagne Bourbonnaise mountainrange in the north of the 'Massif Central'. With a view over the hamlet (approx 12-16 inhabitants, depending on the season) you'll find this lovely place in the middle of forests and mountains. Epalle is located at 850m altitude and that makes it the perfect spot for hiking, biking and exploring.
The hamlet is a very friendly small community where chicken roam freely (eggs are available at our neigbours).
The house is located at the highest point in the village and overlooks the rest of the houses and offers a nice view at the valley and the hamlets at the other side of the valley. There are multiple terrasses around the house which offer either sunlight or shade during the day. In the backgarden (+/-900m2) you'll find privacy but you'll still be able to enjoy the view.
Our favourite spot is under the appletrees at the highest point in the garden, where butterflies fly around the wildflowers and you'll have a magnificent view over the valley.
The cities Vichy and Roanne are really worth a visit at approx. 45-45min drive from the house. In the direct surroundings are also some nice sites to visit like the lake of Saint Clement, an adventure park and the dreamy vineyards in the eastern region. Here are some very interesting smaller but really beautiful (late) medieval cities.

Een heerlijk huis: eenvoudig maar van alle gemakken voorzien in een rustig dorp met erg vriendelijke bewoners die graag een praatje maken (enkel in het Frans maar dat was voor ons geen probleem). De kinderen en de hond konden lekker ravotten in de goed omheinde tuin. We hebben genoten van de rust en de prachtige omgeving. Heerlijk gewandeld vanuit het huis en dorpen in de buurt met af en toe pittige klimmetjes om daarna te kunnen genieten van een prachtig uitzicht met als hoogtepunt Plateau de la Verrerie waar niet alleen het uitzicht maar ook de volop bloeiende paarse heide erg mooi was. Voor wie van rust en wandelen houdt is dit huis echt een aanrader!

Na ons eerste bezoek in september 2021 hebben we ook nu weer een heerlijke tijd gehad in dit gezellige Franse huis. Ook in de zomer een fijne plek, we hebben van de tuin genoten met al zijn plekjes in zon en schaduw, en weer mooie tochten gemaakt. Nog meer wandelingen in het gebied rondom Epalle, wild gespot en gefilmd tijdens een wandeling en prachtige luchten compleet met een dubbele regenboog in de avond...we wensen iedereen die nog na ons komt een heerlijke vakantie toe. Arjen en Ella, nogmaals dank dat we in jullie huis konden verblijven, het was weer zeer de moeite waard!

Wij hebben drie heerlijke weken doorgebracht in Epalle. Het huis is een fantastische uitvalsbasis voor uitstapjes in de prachtige natuur. We hebben zowel per auto als te voet veel mooie tochten gemaakt en genoten van de rust en de ruimte. Het huis is echt Frans, gezellig en compleet, een fijne plek om te zijn voor mens en dier. Onze Franse waterhond voelde zich direct thuis en genoot van de bossen in de omgeving en de tuin bij het huis. Pluspunten zijn voor ons: goede badkamer met lekker warme douche, een nieuwe wasmachine ( dus je hoeft geen grote garderobe mee te nemen, een wasje is zo gedaan), een eenvoudige maar zeer complete keuken, lekker bankje in de woonkamer en een heerlijke grote eettafel met fijne stoelen voor de ramen met prachtig uitzicht. De slaapkamer is ruim, het bed stevig maar we hebben er prima geslapen. Fijn dat er ook boven een toilet is. De bewoners van Epalle, alle andere bezoekers schreven het ook al, zijn aller vriendelijkst. Het gehucht is heel rustig maar toch gebeurt er voor de oplettende kijker heel veel. Kleine bezigheden zoals wandelingetjes met mens en dier of het voeren van de kippen, en grotere bezigheden zoals het vakkundig zagen en stapelen van houtvoorraden. Vanaf het hoger gelegen huis kun je er heerlijk van genieten als je in het zonnetje op de bank voor het huis zit. De herfst begon hier prachtig, wij komen volgend jaar terug om ook de zomer mee te maken. Arjen en Ella, dank dat we in jullie huis konden verblijven en tot volgend jaar!

Activities
We believe that nature and enjoying activities in nature are the things to do that describe this region best. But that would really be an understatement. Although the region is very quiet there certainly are some very nice places to visit. Like the vineyards in the east, maybe the city of Roanne while you're there. Or visit Vichy in the west and walk around this very historic city with beautiful architecture and luscious parks along the Allier river. Make sure you'll visit the hot water springs which made this city what it is over many centuries ago.
Closer to 'home' we find Chatel Montagne with her 12th century Roman church, you might be lucky to find a concert while you're there. There are some small artisan ateliers which are sometimes open for visits. And ofcourse there is a restaurant for a (pretty good) meal as well.
The town of le Mayet de Montagne offers some commerce like a grocery stores, bakeries, a hardware store, kiosks, a wine cellar and, if needed, some garages. There are also some restaurants and bars.
