The house
Located on the ground floor. You can walk straight in from your terrace.
Holiday home Gite des graines has a cosy, spacious living room with sitting area, dining table and a very well equipped kitchen: cooker with oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, extractor, coffee machine, all crockery and kitchen utensils etc. Furthermore, there is a pleasant sitting area with television and DVD player. There are two bedrooms, equipped with delicious box springs of 180cm x 220cm. The beds are of good quality and are very comfortable. the space in this house will surprise you.
The bed linen and towels are included in the rental price. There is a bathroom with washing machine, sink, walk-in shower and toilet and there is also a separate toilet. You have a large private terrace with garden furniture, barbecue and sunshade.
The gite is heated with 6 electric heaters and has a wood-burning stove for cosiness and warmth. Firewood is sufficiently present!

Holiday home Gite des Graines, is peacefully located by the river Ance, in the Vallée de l'Ance. This in turn is part of the regional nature park Livradois Forez, in the Auvergne
The area is one big party for hikers, mountain bikers, (race) cyclists, cross-country skiers and nature lovers in general. In the area, there is a pleasant mixture of small-scale agriculture, forests and mountains. Everywhere are beautiful flowers and (predatory) birds and our 3 ha terrain is regularly visited by deer and other wildlife.
Holiday home Gite des graines is really a place to relax and enjoy nature. The area varies in altitude from 500 to 1600 metres. Your cottage is situated at 850 metres, so the nights are cool.
Holiday home Gite des graines is located in the river valley, between the woods and against a rock wall and therefore has a very favourable micro climate.
Because of the mountain climate and the southern location, the seasons are much more pronounced here than in the Netherlands.
The summer in the Haut Forez is usually warm and sunny. It can be quite warm, but the nights are invariably wonderfully cool. Throughout the summer, there are always new wild flowers to see, beautiful butterflies fly around, enjoy what nature has to offer.
In spring, nature awakens from its hibernation with enormous force, suddenly there are wild flowers everywhere, the birds show themselves spectacularly and it can already be very warm.
The late summer is often very beautiful in the Vallee de l'Ance. The thunderstorms are over and the sun shines for days on end. From November, it can be freezing at night, but during the day, it is still warm enough to have lunch in the sun. The autumn colours are spectacular, it is a real 'Indian summer'.
Winter is a dry season and the precipitation that falls, falls as snow. However, the cold is very dry and, especially around the Moulin, there is hardly any wind. That gives a completely different feeling than in the Netherlands. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and alpine skiing are all possible within half an hour of the Gite des Graines holiday home.

De foto's doen deze fijne plek geen eer aan! Wij hebben super erg genoten van de rust rondom deze accommodatie. Geweldige faciliteiten over het gehele complex en super aardige gastheer en vrouw. Wij raden iedereen aan naar Moulin des Comtes te gaan om even bij te tanken in een gezellige omgeving!

Gîte des Graines is onderdeel van de oude watermolen Moulin de Comtes. De eigenaars bewonen een deel van het gebouw en verder is er nog een gîte en een B&B deel. Gîte des graines is recent grondig opgeknapt door de nieuwe eigenaars. Het is praktisch en gezellig ingericht met alle comfort die men zich kan wensen. Vooral de bedden verdienen een extra pluim. Met voorsprong de beste bedden die we in Frankrijk zijn tegengekomen.
Moulin des Comtes ligt zo'n twee kilometer van het plaatsje Viverols af, alwaar een bakker en wat kleine winkels. Vanwege de hoogte wordt het er wat minder snel benauwd in de zomer en dat vonden wij erg prettig, vooral 's nachts. De omgeving is erg fraai met leuke kleine plaatsjes om te bezoeken. Voor kinderen en dan vooral pubers is er wellicht wat weinig spektakel.
De nieuwe eigenaars, Rob en Annemie, zijn zéér gastvrij (maar zeker niet opdringerig) en spannen zich in om hun gasten flink te verwennen. Zo vind je op de avond van aankomst een complete en smakelijke maaltijd in de koelkast. Even opwarmen en het erbij geleverde flesje wijn openen en de vakantie kan beginnen. Uniek!
Helaas hebben wij ook een beroep moeten doen op hun hulpvaardigheid nadat onze auto 20 kilometer voordat we ons vakantieadres zouden bereiken, het definitief begaf en de ANWB pechhulp ons grondig en langdurig in de steek liet.
Dankzij de inspanningen van Rob en Annemie en twee Belgische gasten hebben we toch een uitstekende en gezellige week gehad.Alles bij elkaar opgeteld kan ik Gîte des Graines iedereen van harte aanbevelen. De hoge score en de positieve recensies, mede de reden dat ik er geboekt had, zijn volkomen terecht.

De eigenaren zijn zeer vriendelijk en behupzaam. Bij aankomst staat een heerlijke maaltijd klaar inclusief een fles wijn. De ruimtes zijn prima in orde, bedden liggen heerlijk.
Uitstekende uitvalbasis voor de steden Lyon of St.Ettienne.
De huisdieren komen ook af en toe langs voor wat aandacht.
Heerlijk weekje weg gehad.

There are restaurants in the area that are suitable for foodies as well as those who want to try the local cuisine.
We can of course help you find them during your stay. We also know nice restaurants for you. in various price ranges and various styles. Ask us and tell us what you like and we will probably know where best to go.
Regional specialities include the famous Auvergne cheeses: including Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne, Saint Nectaire and Cantal. Furthermore, Auvergne is very proud of its beef, from cows that have a lot of space: Charolais, Salers and Aubrac are famous for their tender and tasty meat.
Get tasty dez Everse and local produce in the area and cook in your gite. A full kitchen is at your disposal.
Activities
The area is ideally suited for lovers of sporting activities such as fishing, cycling, mountain biking, hiking and cross-country skiing in winter. There are hundreds of kilometres of marked walks and cycle routes. Some of them run almost directly past Holiday Home Gite des Graines. In your cottage, you will find descriptions of all kinds of beautiful walks and cycling routes and we ourselves have described a number of walks, directly from your front door.
Of course, you can also go by car. The (natural stone) villages in the vicinity such as Viverols (3 km) and Usson and Forez (5km) Saint Anthème (15 km) are very original: here you will find the France of yesteryear, with farmers' markets, quiet squares with terraces and a friendly population that - unlike in busier areas - welcomes tourism with open arms. In Viverols / Usson and Forez you will find an excellent bakery, butchers, a few groceries, a supermarket, a tourist office, a post office
The nearby town of La Chaise Dieu has a beautiful abbey and in August there is a famous festival of classical music. Also the pilgrimage site Le Puy en Velay with its beautiful cathedral is more than worth a visit. The lovely town of Ambert with its extensive regional market (on Thursdays) is half an hour's drive away. The major cities of Clermont Ferrand, Saint-Etienne and Lyon are within easy reach for a day trip.
At several places nearby you will find a 'plan d'eau': a swimming lake with a restaurant or ice cream shop.
Skiing and cross-country skiing is possible at a half hour drive (21,6km) in ski area SAINT-ANTHèME - PRABOURE and at a bit more than an hour (51,2km) is ski area Chalmazel .
