The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

"La Seganjotte" is "a maison de campagne", built in 1836.
The first inhabitants were farm workers, then some Parisian families, then we were allowed to live there and now the honour is yours.
During our time there from 2002 to 2007, we gradually renovated all the rooms while living there. Once finished, we enjoyed it 'for a while' and then decided to take on the next project.
La Seganjotte became a holiday home for others.
In 2015 and 2016, the interior was freshened up again. We also bought new furniture and white goods.
We want our guests to feel welcome, relax and enjoy themselves to the full.

All rooms (and spaces) are on the ground floor.
Because of its safe and spacious atmosphere, "La Seganjotte" is perfect for a holiday for two as well as for a group of 6-8 people.

The ground floor:
has a living room with a beamed ceiling, a large fireplace with wood stove (which can burn for 24 hours on a filling and is easy to operate) and a cozy sitting area
where you can watch Dutch television and DVDs (children's films and feature films), access the internet wirelessly and find games and books in the bookcase.
The open kitchen with dining area is simple but complete. The washing machine is in the scullery.

One of the two bathrooms has a bathtub in which you can also shower. The other bathroom has a shower. There are two toilets.
The four bedrooms in "French" atmosphere each have 2x single beds. (Size is 2.00m x 0.90m).

From the living room there is access to the garden. This garden is well fenced / walled. From the garden you have a beautiful view. Here you can relax on easy chairs or at the large table under a big maple tree. For your children there is a playground. For dogs there are plenty of perks and corners to sniff.

Surroundings

"La Seganjotte" is situated amidst rolling fields, meadows fringed by hedges and on the edge of woods.
From the garden you have a beautiful view of a lovely valley and some farms in the distance. There is a benevolent silence here.
On the winding road in front of the house, a neighbour or a tractor passes by every now and then.
Forest dwellers such as foxes, deer, an occasional badger, all sorts of (predatory) birds and numerous rare butterflies can regularly be seen in the immediate vicinity.

In the past, this used to be a mini-village consisting of a stable, a pigeonnier (pigeon tower), a small house and several outbuildings.
That pigeon tower is called la Tourterelle is our other holiday home.
The "buildings" are free in relation to each other. The cottage and the garden are private and almost completely enclosed by vegetation.

Ideal environment for peace and quiet, bird watchers, dog owners and nature and culture lovers.

Practical information:
For delicious traditional wood-fired bread you can go to the bakery 3 km away. There is an organic bakery in the village of Rouy (8 km).
A well-stocked supermarket is in Saint Benin d'Azy, a large village about 7 km away. There are also many supermarkets in villages and towns a little further away.

Restaurants, food & wine

North of Nevers are the towns of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire. They are the "capitals" of two wine regions that produce the renowned Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Well worth a day trip are the wine regions around Beaune. Where a visit to one of the domains is quite an experience and tasting is buying.
Burgundy is of course Burgundy food for which you can go in the many hospitable restaurants. In the gite there are brochures with addresses and recommendations in the guestbook.

Activities

Nearby are lakes, canals and rivers where you can canoe, fish, "paddle" and swim. For the latter, you can also go to Saint Benin d'Azy (6km) where there is an excellent (small-scale) swimming pool. You will also find a tennis court and a riding school there.

In the immediate vicinity, you can make beautiful walking and cycling trips, choosing from challenging hilly routes or flat trips along the Canal du Nivernais.

The surrounding villages, towns and cities (Nevers, Autun, Bourges, Vezelay, Moulins) offer a range of cultural and historical activities.

Of course, you can also do "nothing" and just sit in the garden or on the sofa enjoying a good glass of wine, that one book, the children playing, the view......

  • Bicycle
  • Near hiking trails
  • Near ATB trails
  • Near riding
  • Fishing
  • Water sports

Further remarks

Dogs are welcome, the garden is well fenced, partly walled and certainly safe for (small) children.
