The house
Our gîte is a simple authentic farmhouse from 1850, located in a hilly quiet rural setting on the edge of a hamlet and situated on a footpath (side path of the "Tour du Morvan" GR) that leads into a forest. You can therefore make several beautiful walks directly from the gite.
The property is a so-called longere (oblong farmhouse) consisting of two parts: the front house where the farmer and farmer's wife used to live, and the converted barn. The gite in the front house is for rent. The converted barn in the back house is also for rent.

The front house consists of a kitchen-diner with original old 'tomettes' on the floor (terracotta tiles), with table and chairs. Furthermore, there is a living room, also with 'tomettes' and with a 'ceiling à la française' (French beamed ceiling), a wood stove, two sofas and a table with chairs. There is also a bathroom with bathtub/shower, washbasin and toilet. In the attic are the two bedrooms. One bedroom has a nice comfortable double box-spring bed measuring 160 by 2 metres. The other bedroom has two comfortable 2 m x 90 cm box-spring beds that can also be put together if desired.
The front house has an enclosed cour (cour interieure) with garden furniture, and a terrace with two deckchairs with beautiful views of the green surroundings and the garden.

Our house is situated at the edge of a hamlet near Villapourcon. The hamlet has about twenty simple farm houses, situated on the southern flanks of the highest peaks of the natural park the "Morvan". The village has its own spring with fresh water. It is located in a wooded area and through various paths you can walk into the forest. Of course there are cows to be seen in the village. The peace and quiet of the place is enhanced by the fact that the tarmac road stops in the village. From the hamlet you have a nice view on the valley of the nearby village Villapourcon.
Our house is called 'Villa Valentine', named after its first inhabitants, Valentin and Valentine. Together, they ran a café in the front house for the farmers in the neighbourhood. Villa' refers to Villapourcon.
In the village of Villapourcon there is a café, a dépôt de pain (bread) and a small grocery. Moulins Engilbert is about a 15-minute drive away. Moulins Engilbert has all basic facilities such as a supermarket, butcher, bakers and a few cafés and restaurants. The beautiful Mont Beuvray with its famous Celtic museum and the excavations of the historic city Bibracte are only ten minutes away. The former Gallo-Roman capital of France, Autun, is about 30 kilometres away (40 minutes by car). Autun is the cultural centre of the southern Morvan and has, besides interesting Roman buildings, a beautiful old centre with several nice terraces and a weekly market every Friday morning.

From the valley of Villapourcon, you will find villages with authentic restaurants serving Burgundian cuisine in all directions. Moulins Engilbert, Larochemillay, Saint Honore les Bains but also Chateau Chinon and Autun offer a wide range of restaurants. You can buy local food from a local producer/traitteur at Onlay.
Activities
The house is situated in a woody area and from our house you can take several beautiful walks. The terrain also lends itself well to mountain biking. In the summer months there are several 'brocante' markets in the area.
In the gite you will find a basket with information about the area and a guest book.

Villa Valentine costs 350 euro per week (low season), 450 euro per week (high season).
Bring your own towels and sheets. Double bed=1.60x2.00 meter.
Two single beds 0.90x2.00 meter.
Cleaning costs are euro 35,-
Deposit 100 euro (refunded at no damage)
In the gite you will find a DVD playback recorder and a monitor, there are no TV channels to be received. There is a simple stereo with CD player.
