The house
This holiday home, located in a small hamlet in Burgundy, used to be an old French farm from 1806, today it is a welcoming space with authentic elements and can be rented for 2 to 6 persons. Bienvenue!
Au Loir consists of 2 independent living spaces under one roof connected by a passageway on the upper floor. If you want to spend your holidays with friends or with the whole family, Au Loir is the ideal holiday home. Each part of the house has its own bathroom/toilet and kitchen. This way, you can enjoy a cosy get-together and each has its own space for privacy. Both rooms breathe an authentic French atmosphere with all the conveniences of a well-equipped Dutch holiday home. (Grand) children are also welcome. The view is free and shows the typical Burgundian landscape.
Hospitable and homely
This natural stone farmhouse has been completely renovated in recent years and adapted to modern times. So you cook on a 5 burner gas cooker and there is WiFi everywhere. There are 3 wood-burning stoves for those cooler days. The tastefully furnished library/lounge area offers space for reading and music lovers. In the kitchen-living room, you can dine or play games with a large group of people. In the garden and on several terraces, outdoor living takes place. The beds are made upon arrival!
Sleeping arrangements
Au loir has 1 double bed in a separate bedroom and 2 single beds in the loft. The spacious sleeping loft sleeps 5, including a double bed and 3 single beds, and the 10th bed can be found in the library/lounge area on the ground floor.
In addition, for the little ones, there is a baby bed, a toddler bed, a high chair and a playpen.
There are also plenty of games and toys such as lego, playmobil, knex, doll's house, construction marble track and kapla available.
Please note: the swimming pool is not a "swimming" pool but an outdoor pool, where you can cool down on hot days; dimensions 2m x 0,90 m.

Our lovely holiday home is situated in a small hamlet, in a quiet and lovely area, in the west of the Saône et Loire region, 800 km from Utrecht.
The view is unobstructed. Around the house is a piece of land of over 1000m2. This space offers you the opportunity to play, garden, sport, laze, eat and drink. On warm days, the spacious terrace under the large lime tree offers a wonderful shelter.
Stoking a fire and having a barbecue are also possible. If you look around you see the characteristic landscape of Burgundy: hills and forests, on clear evenings a beautiful starry sky.
The nearest village is Gilly sur Loire, to which Fontête belongs. Here you will find a small shop and also a small train station. It is therefore possible to arrive by train from the Netherlands. Please take into account that the house is 4,5 km from the station. There are 2 bicycles available at the house. For larger groceries or a pleasant shopping experience you can go to nearby towns in the region.

Wij hebben het in Au Loir erg naar onze zin gehad. Het is een ruim boerenhuis dat mooi is verbouwd tot een plezierige plek aan de rand van de Bourgogne. Het huis heeft veel slaapplaatsen, een goede woonkeuken en badkamer. Au Loir heeft veel rust en ruimte om zich heen. Vanuit de tuin met een grote lindeboom en verschillende zitjes heb je een mooi uitzicht op de omgeving. Het ligt in een dunbevolkt glooiend heuvellandschap. De voorzieningen (bakker en dergelijke) liggen op enige afstand (zo’n 10 minuten rijden). Heel dichtbij (in Perrigny, 3 km) is een fijn restaurant. Dit werd onze favoriete eetbestemming. Zeker aan te bevelen!
De eigenaresse van Au Loir is via Whatsapp heel behulpzaam met het geven van tips en waardevolle adviezen. Heel prettig!

Eind april 2018 waren we voor de vijfde keer in Au Loir.
Het was weer thuis-komen. Wat een smaakvolle, gezellige en tegelijk praktische inrichting toch. De renovatie is prachtig gelukt en we hebben weer genoten van het voortreffelijke bed, de snorrende houtkachel en de heerlijke tuin met het fraaie uitzicht.
Mooie fietstochten gemaakt met onze E-fietsen en ook een urenlange wandeling gemaakt in een dichtbijzijnd bebost beekdal. Zeldzame orchideeën gevonden.

Wij hebben erg genoten van dit prachtig huis. Het is een hele kunst om van de oorspronkelijke boerderij zoiets moois te maken. Daar komt heel wat bij kijken! En voor ons was alles aanwezig. Een groot compliment!
En wat een prachtige en rustige omgeving. Wij hebben een aantal wandelingen in de buurt gemaakt en veel vogels gezien, waaronder ooievaar, griel, verschillende roofvogels en bijeneter, en genoten van de prachtige vergezichten. Ook waren er veel bloemen. Wij hebben ook nog een bezoek gebracht aan de abdij van Cluny, wat zeer de moeite waard was.
Dit huis is een echte aanrader!

Route des grand vins at 80km.
On Sunday morning there is an extensive market in Digoin (14km) with, among other things, many fresh regional products.
In the vicinity are several restaurants where you can eat for pleasant prices.
Activities
If you choose to go on holiday or a weekend trip, you can go hiking, canoeing and/or paddling in the Loire River in this area. Swim and play tennis in the picturesque nearby town of Bourbon-Lancy, drink coffee and shop in various old French towns. You can visit the surrounding area but also the thermal baths (10km), horse riding at the nearby riding school (5km), play golf (8km) or visit the amusement park/zoo Lepal (18km), or a little further Parc des Combes or L'Acrobath. Cyclists can enjoy the wide area on the "voies vertes" route, or for example go along the Canal de la Loire towards Digoin and then return by bike on the train. Various swimming facilities such as swimming pools, the Loire and a nice lake with a beach and water slides can be reached within 15 minutes. In Bourbon, you can, in the summer, play a game of miniature golf with your children. In Gueugnon there is a kart track.
For those interested, the pilgrimage site, Paray le Monial, is at about 35 km.
Sights to see within 1 hour:
Moulins (45km), Vichy (80km) and Autun (80km).
Taize and Cluny at 80km. The archaeological centre Bibracte, located in the parc national du Morvan at 70km.
In the house there is an information folder that we keep up to date with all possible attractions and activities in the area.

Items present in the gite:

Outside: table tennis table, hammocks, garden furniture, 4 bicycles.
The weekly prices are the prices for 6 people, above that there is a surcharge (à 75.00 euro pp pw). The price includes bed linen, energy and 2 wheelbarrows of wood (note: in case of cold weather, a supplement may be charged for extra wood, à 10.00 euro/barrow, this is the cost price). The price includes final cleaning costs. In low season, you can also extend the week by 1 or more days. The arrival day and departure day can also be arranged (for bookings just before departure, please enquire about the possibilities).
We expect you to leave the house tidy and broom clean.
The toys are tidy and sorted.
The deposit is 150 euros.

Additional price info and offers
If you come with your pet, the costs are €40,- per pet per week.
Please note that the swimming pool is not a "pool" but an outdoor pool. Dimensions 2m x 0.90 m and 70 cm deep. This offers delicious coolness on hot summer days.
