The house
In addition to the main house, the chateau de Préty comprises a number of outbuildings housing gites. "Le Haras" is a former horse stable that has been renovated into living space, containing a sitting area and a dining area with two bedrooms and a magnificent bathroom. The rooms are connected by a natural stone staircase. There are comfortable beds of 200x180 and a twin of 200x1.60 or 2 beds of 200x80. Directly in front of the gite is a furnished terrace overlooking the chateau and the fountain and behind it the park with the swimming pool 50 m away.
The renovation retained all the original characteristics and added contemporary comforts. Through special decoration, an aura has been obtained in which the charm of the past is well combined with the comfort and inspiration of the present.
In addition to the overwhelming influences of the beautiful grounds with a private terrace near the gite, it is the natural stone feeders, the racks and the leather horse tack that strongly determine the atmosphere. Through a semi-circular window and a large entrance door with panes, which one usually leaves open, there is contact with a large "cour" with a basin and a fountain and a furnished terrace for long evenings dining al fresco. The room itself also has a dining table and French chairs for six people; in addition, a sitting area with easy armchairs and a wood-burning stove. The first impression is surprisingly pleasant due to the combination of light, colour schemes and unusual decoration. There is a very nice 15 m2 bathroom with a double bathtub, a separate shower room, two washbasins and an armchair. In addition, there is a kitchen that is not very large but contains everything you need for extensive cooking.
The heated swimming pool in the park with its terraces and plantings is a paradise in itself, where you will find peace in a wonderful climate, while your children will have fun with an abundance of safe play opportunities. Everything is so spacious that you can choose different spots where you can spend your time completely undisturbed. It is not uncommon to spend long days swimming by the pool and enjoying the gentle sun as early as the end of April. If the weather is less attractive, we make the indoor pool in the chateau available. There you can also possibly use the sauna and enjoy the view in silence....

This estate is an old wine estate built on the remains of a Roman villa on the outskirts of the village of Prety. The Romans exploited a quarry with a beautiful red natural stone that can be found in countless buildings, even in Lyon. The chateau de Prety has a beautiful mature park with age-old trees, lawns and flowers and looks out on one side of the valley of the river Saône. The terrain is completely walled in so that optimal rest and privacy are guaranteed. Prety is a beautiful French village with a twelfth-century church, a lavoir (covered washing place), a bakery, a café and a post office, many old houses with vegetable gardens, the whole in a peaceful atmosphere. It is located in an area famous for its excellent Burgundian wines and its renowned restaurants. Prety borders a beautiful wooded nature reserve that lends itself to walking and cycling. Tournus can be reached by bike in fifteen minutes on country roads with no traffic.
The Saone, which borders Prety and Tournus, is a dreamy river which lends itself to swimming, fishing, barbecues, or picnics along its banks.
Tournus, 4 km away, is a typical medieval town with numerous terraces, restaurants, antique dealers and boutiques. There are old streets (ruelles) with beautiful facades and small squares, two museums and a thirteenth century abbey where in the adjacent monastery buildings changing exhibitions are held.
In the immediate vicinity, besides the regional markets, there are also regular flea markets.
Near Tournus, there are vineyards and forests on rolling hills, and numerous wine cellars in the enclosed villages, where there is always a restaurant with a menu for around 15 €.
There are also some beautiful golf courses in the immediate surroundings, where you can play without having to wait. When you explore this landscape, it is striking how original and unspoilt this area is with its numerous chateaus, medieval towns and idyllic villages. The peace and quiet, the space and the friendly contact with the locals make you feel as if you are in another time.

Restaurants, food & wine
Tournus and its surroundings offer a number of top restaurants (4 stars), as well as a large number of small good restaurants where you can enter with children and have a nice meal for a modest price in a pleasant environment. The host of Chateau de Prety can advise you and, if desired, make reservations for you, e.g. on the day of your arrival.
One evening a week the château cooks for its guests and then serves them in the château or on the terrace. This cooking and dining event is free of charge. If you wish, you can participate in the preparation, followed by a collective dinner on a beautifully decorated table, while your children join in or play on the terrace.
On other days, you can also book a table d'hote and be served good quality regional wines.
Activities
It is interesting to get to know the area, visit chateaux and gardens, buy some good wine and tasty cheese and relax with a glass of cool wine by the pool in the afternoon. You can also hire a boat in the next village for a trip, a picnic or to go fishing.
It is also an excellent area for cycling due to an extensive network of small roads with virtually no traffic and the possibility of choosing areas with slopes or flat landscapes. The same applies to hikers.

Further remarks
In the gite you have total privacy; the terrain is only accessible to the guests. Because of its location at only 5 km from the A6 motorway, you can easily drive here from, for example, Amsterdam, within 8 hours. Because of its location in the valley of the Saone, you will find a wonderful climate, with little rain and a very pleasant temperature.
