The house
In the French woodlands and rolling hills lies our lovely, tranquil holiday home, on the property of our farm. The gîte is carefully renovated and furnished. Ground floor: spacious hallway, shower room with wash basin, baby dresser, baby bath, washing machine. First floor: spacious living room, with sofa bed (double), open plan comfortable kitchen. 2 Bedrooms each with 2 single beds. Large wardrobes, cot available. The house has central heating and there is a large garden with garden furniture. Children have is a lot of space here, outdoors as well as indoors. In the large shed there is a table tennis set, skateboard banks, a basket and a swing.

Les Grands Essards is situated on a hill close to a large forest. The local village is called Bagneaux, at 4 km from the farm, between the towns Sens and Troyes, at 30 and 40 km. The house is surrounded by rolling hills, forests and streams. At 7 km in Villeneuve l’Archeveque you will find all the amenities.

We hebben een heerlijke vakantie gehad in Les Grand Essarts. Het huisje is van alle gemakken voorzien en de omgeving is schitterend. En niet te vergeten een vriendelijke gastheer en gastvrouw.

Alle eerdere recenties hebben gelijk. Verblijf op Les Grands Essarts is heerlijk. Het huis is sfeervol en is van alle gemakken voorzien. De tuin is zonnig en heerlijk om in te zitten en te eten. Reeën kun je al 'gewoon' op/om het huis zien. In de heuvelachtige omgeving is meer dan genoeg te doen: Troyes (kathedraal, middeleeuwse steegjes en meer), Sens (prachtige kerk, tuinen), Provins (met ridder-theater voor kinderen (en voor wie vanbinnen nog een beetje kind is), Nogent (beelden-museum), cisterciënzer abdijen, meertjes, dorpsmarkten, wandel-mogelijkheden. Binnen enkele minuten ben je op de A5, wat ook Fontainebleau, Parijs of Disney binnen bereik brengt (1 uur/1.5 uur). Toch is Les Grands Essarts juist een rustige plek midden in de wereld, op een heuvel met weids uitzicht, en met een grote speel-schuur en buiten o.a. een trampoline.
Restaurants, food & wine
The farm is situated in the north of the Burgundy region. Visit the wine cellars of Auxerre and Chablis for tastings, or the champagne region north of Bagneaux. Wine arouses the appetite, and the local cuisine of the Yonne region responds to that: escargots (snales), andouilettes (tripe sausage), gougères (cheese profiteroles), coq au vin and cheeses like the Chaource, Soumaintrain and Saint-Florentin.
Activities
The area is excellent for long nature walks, or for bicycle tours, if you don’t mind the hills. At 12 km there is a swimming pool - the big lakes are at 60 km. Within 1,5 hours you are in Paris or in Disneyland. Daytrips are possible to Vézelay, Fontainebleau or the large lakes of La Forêt d’Orient. Or perhaps you prefer the peace and quiet of this unique spot.

Further remarks
Troyes and Sens with their magnificent churches and cathedrals are well worth a visit, as are the museums and the castles and cloisters in the region. The variety of wildlife and wild flora on the property makes our gite a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers. Tourist information is available in the gite.
The prices are per week and include gas, water, electricity and heating. Sheets are for rent at € 8,-- per person, and towels for € 5,--. Final cleaning is € 50,--.
