The house
Our comfortable Gite has a large lounge/dining room downstairs with a table seating 6 (and high chair), sofa and digital TV with both UK Sky and French TV. There's also a Playstation 3 and a DVD player with large selection of films and games to play.
Adjacent on one side is the downstairs bathroom with toilet, power shower and washing machine, and on the other the kitchen with double oven, halogen hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.
Upstairs we have 3 bedrooms, two with double beds and a twin with two single beds. There's a separate nursery with cot, travel cot and children's toys.

Our Gite is situated in a small hamlet of just 5 houses, but we're only 2 km (1.5 miles) from the small town of La Cheze where there's a supermarket, two restaurants, bar, bank and pâtisserie. We're right in the middle of Brittany on the border of departments 22 and 35 with the larger towns of Josselin, Loudeac and Pontivy each about 15-25 minutes drive away.
Josselin chateau towers over the Nantes/Brest canal and there's a great Saturday street market that winds down the hill. Pontivy was a medieval stronghold of the Dukes of Brittany and was for a time named Napoleonville after the eponymous emperor, streets and areas of the town still show his mark even today.
There's plenty to see and do in this part of central Brittany and also both the North and South Brittany coasts are only about an hour's drive away.

Het huisje is gelegen in een klein gehucht waardoor het er vaak muisstil is en je volop kan genieten van de rust der natuur. In het huisje is alles aanwezig voor zes personen. De kamers zijn ruim en de sanitaire voorzieningen zijn OK. Buiten botsten we op enkele verrassingen. De vele fietsen aanwezig zijn niet echt onderhouden (vele platte banden, oud & versleten). De ligstoelen (één in plastiek alle andere in hout) hebben we gebruikt maar zijn niet echt fantastisch om uren op te liggen bij gebrek aan kussens. Een voetplankje viel zelfs uit elkaar. De BBQ vertoont eveneens ouderdomsverschijnselen. Het ijzeren geraamte is doorgeroest en één van de twee roosters is defect. Als laatste was het water in het zwembad groen met heel veel zand, algen,... op de bodem waardoor het niet echt uitnodigend was om erin te zwemmen. Moraal van het verhaal: op de site wordt er geschreven dat er veel extra's aanwezig zijn maar daarom niet in goede staat.
Restaurants, food & wine
Brittany is famed for its galette (buckwheat) pancakes and there's a lovely creperie in La Cheze that we thoroughly recommend. There's a good pizza place in Rohan (about 15 minutes drive) alongwith another pancake restaurant.
Food and drink are a way of live in France and there's plenty of great restaurants to be found everywhere you go, some catering just to lunchtime trade - a simple fixed meal with wine for €10-15, and others catering for the evening trade. In the 16 years we have owned the Gite we have never had a bad meal anywhere.
Activities
A local VTT (bike/horse route) runs past the Gite and continues through the forests along the valley our hamlet is named after. We have a large collection of bikes of different sizes for adults and children to use and the Nantes/Brest canal is not far to cycle along.
At Loudeac (10km away) there's a horse riding centre, fishing is available at La Cheze (2km) and Loudeac, and boats can be hired at Lac au Duc (20km away), Brittany's largest lake.

The Gite has a fully enclosed garden with fruit trees, shrubs and plenty of grass for the children to run around !
We have a large trampoline, swings, slide, climbing frame and a selection of outdoor games for the family.
Beside the Gite is a large patio with sun-loungers, outside dining table, chairs and BBQ - perfect for a relaxing holiday.

Our price is fully inclusive for the entire Gite, regardless of occupancy. It includes all utility costs and bed linen.
We ask guests to bring their own towels, or we can supply them for €5 per person.
