Restaurants, food & wine

With its extensive coastline, seafood is one of Brittany's specialities. From shellfish, to lobster, clams, whelks, scallops, mussels and oysters. Oysters are classified, like cheeses and wines, with their own AOC (Controlled Origin Name). Seafood will feature on most menus which often combine fish with the region's other culinary specialities, such as Sauce à la Crème or au Camembert. The moules (mussel) beds in the coastal bays of Brittany, provide the local restaurants with fresh produce to be enjoyed: Moules et Frites is a must for fish lovers and are available widely, served in a variety of delicious sauces.
The Brittany cheese board is varied and delicious. Cheese in France is usually served between the main course and dessert.
The abundance of apples which flavour both savoury and sweet dishes also means that Brittany boasts a wide range of other apple bi-products, most notably cider, and tarte au pomme. There will be many opportunities to sit in a restaurant or café, enjoying a beautiful view while sampling the Breton cuisine of buckwheat pancakes, accompanied by a bowl of cider
