The house
Get the feeling of a real French farm house, only a 2 hours drive from Paris!
Authentic elements are well kept in this house with 150m2 living space. Walls in natural stone, floors in original 'tommetes' , ceiling with exposed wooden beams and large fireplaces. Large diningroom with farm table that sits up to 8 persons. Fully equipped kitchen with propane kitchen stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, dishwasher and washing machine. Living room with comfortable seating and French doors opening to terrace. On the terrace there is a large outside table with 6 chairs to enjoy your meals outside, or to just sit and doze off with a book. On the second floor you'll find 3 bedrooms, all with walls of natural stone, and 1 bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have double beds, one has 2 single beds. The bathroom has a shower, a sink and the second toilet.
The large stone barn (built in 1887) offers room to park your bicycles or your car. Bicycles are available. Cars can also be parked in front of the barn. There is also a meadow ( approx. 50 mtrs from the house) with view over the Loire valley. When the weather is clear you can see the 'Fôret de Betranges' on the other side of the Loire river, in Burgundy. The French neighbours will like to make contact with the 'strangers' but only if you want them to. So, if you want to improve your French, here's your chance!
When temperatures drop in autum and spring the house can be heated with the 2 wood burning fireplaces, one in the living and one in the dining room/kitchen. The bathroom is heated with an electric radiator.
In the house there is all kind of touristic information and leaflets concerning the surounding area available.

The house is located in the Loire valley, in the very heart of 'le Berry' , the oldfashioned France. In a quiet little Hamlet, 1 km from the village of Herry where you find a bakery (boulangerie) and a small convenience store (Epic'Herry). For the larger supermarkets ( Auchan, InterMarché and Aldi) you'll have to go to la Charité-sur-Loire (10km). In this city you'll also find a medieval centre with nice shops, restaurants and cosy terraces. La Charité-sur-Loire is also known for its status as city of the word and books, with markets of ancient books in the restored halls of the enormous monastry (classified as UNESCO World Heritage). Our house is at 10km from de Loire river, where swimming and canoeiing are favourite sports. Or you can go ride your bicycles along the Loire, following the trail of 'la Loire à vélo'. Larger cities in the neighbourhood are Nevers (30km to the south) and Bourges(40km to the west). Do not forget to visit the cathedral and the 'Palais Jacques Coeur' in Bourges, both in the centre of this medieval city.
And for the wine-lovers: de vineyards of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire are only 10 km away! The wonderful and world famous wines can be tasted at many wine house. Go into the 'cave' of the winemaker and get a taste. And then there is Chavignol. The village that gave its name to the well known goat-cheese is hidden in between the vineyards. This goat cheese, known as 'crottins de chèvre' (goats droppings) goes wonderful with a glass of Sancerre, a match made in heaven!
And of course: whoever hears the name of the Loire river, immediately thinks of the many castles, 'les châteaus'. In the direct neighbourhood of our house you can find 'Château Tracy' and 'Château du Nozet' better known as 'Château de Ladoucette'. Of course both castles are famous wine houses as well.

We zijn erg tevreden over Le Charme de Cher. Guus en Julie hebben zo een sfeervolle plek gecreëerd, voorzien van alle gemakken. En hun gastvrije onthaal was een perfect begin van een ontspannen vakantie met mijn gezin en hond in de mooie Gite. 5 sterren, dikke 10.

Leuk huis wat goed compleet is. Heel rustig gelegen en je loopt zo tussen de velden door een eind weg. De omgeving is vooral voor de actieve mensen zeker een aanrader. Er zijn veel fiets mogelijkheden en goede fietspaden. Er is voor de wijnliefhebber is er ook dichtbij veel te beleven. Ook de zeer aangename eigenaren maken dit tot een fijn vakantiehuis.

We hebben heerlijk 10 dagen genoten in Gite “Le Charme du Cher.”
Het huisje was van alle gemakken voorzien en zeer schoon. De bedden waren heerlijk. We hebben gebruik gemaakt van de fietsen en zeer mooie tochten gemaakt door de Sancerre wijnstreek en langs de Loire.
Leuke dorpjes en steden in de buurt.
Restaurants, food & wine
Sancerre, a great name in wines! The crackling fresh white wine of the Sauvignon-blanc grape is well known and appriciated all over the world. And then of course the Pouilly-Fumé on the opposite bank of the Loire river. Every winemaker will invite you into his 'cave' to have a tasting. Try also the 'Chavignol', the goat cheese that goes wonderfull together with a glass of Sancerre.
For restaurants there is a lot of choice in the neighbourhood: just outside the village of Herry there is a special restaurant "La Ferme des Barreaux' (only by reservation). In la Charité-sur-Loire you can find a lot of restaurants in all price-ranges. But also in the many little villages you can find some cozy restaurants, where one can be pleasantly surprised by the honest and cheap country meals.
Activities
Bicycle riding along the Loire river; canoeiing, strolling through the pittoresque villages of Sancerre or Chavignol; playing golf in Saint Satur.
For any cultural visits go to the city of Bourges ( Palais Jacques Coeur, the medieval city centre and the Saint-Etienne Cathedral) or to la Charité-sur-Loire, the city of books. Visit the enormous monastry that has been restored over the last 7 years and is classified as UNESCO World Heritage. In August the city is buzzing because of the Blues-festival 'Blues on Loire' (in 2015 from August 19 to 22). A lot of performances throughout the city, some free and some with an entrance fee, great and well known artists; great atmosphere!
If you prefer a slower pace, hiking trails pass at approx. 200mtr from our house.
Wine-tastings at the numerous wineries of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire and all the surrounding villages and hamlets. We can recomment the 'domaine de la Perrière' in the gigantic caves just outside Sancerre.
For the more sports minded cyclists the back-country of Sancerre is there: challenging hills with wonderful views.
On the other side of the Loire river, in the 'Puisaye, you can find 'Guédelon'. Since 1998 they are building a castle here the old-fashioned way, as they did in the 13th century. No power tools, everything by hand and techniques that were used in the 13th century: stones from their own quarry, the timber for the amazing wooden constructions from the surrounding woods, nails are produced in their own smithy, roof-tiles handmade with on site extracted clay etc. Lots to see on the large construction site. Interesting for both youngsters and older people!
From our house it's only a 2 hours drive to Paris, one of the most spectacular cities in the world.

Prices are valid for 2 persons. When party of 4 or 6 persons other prices are applicable.
There is always a stock of firewood available to light a cozy fire. If more firewood is needed in colder times this will be charged seperately.
20% deposit is demanded with booking.
Booking is only valid after recieving the deposit.
The rest of the rental price is to be transfered into our bankaccount at last one week before beginning of rental period.
