The small village of Glatigny is just minutes away from the most beautiful and long sandy beach (and often deserted!).
It is nestled between the two towns of The Hague Well and Portbail, home to superb restaurants and superb weekly markets.
Barnville-Carteret is also nearby and is a summer resort for many Parisians, it is an ideal place to stay in the summer.
Portbail and Barnville / Carteret both offer excellent stables for horseback riding and beach walks should not be missed!
Please visit the village's tennis courts, behind Marie's office in the village square. These are free for residents and you will find tennis rackets and balls in the barn.
From June to around September, most weekends, many towns and villages nearby organize festivals and parties with good music and good outdoor food.
Most cities also have what is known as a flea market, which is essentially a furniture market, but it is definitely worth visiting because it is very rare that such quantities of antiques are combined under one roof. same roof at such low prices. By far the best is 'The Key Of The Times' in Coutances.
There are many sites of interest of the Second World War, one of the most important being near Caen; unfortunately, this whole region is dripping with this bloody story. There is a book in the house showing the damage done to the nearby town of The Hague Du Puit, but it's not a unique story.
Mont St Michel is not too far, and is a breathtaking place, highly recommend a visit.
The Bayeux Tapestry is nearby and is an interesting day.
There are also regular boat trips on the beautiful Channel Islands of Jersey (which you can see from Glatigny Beach) Guernsey, Sark and Alderney and if you are in the area for a suitable period of time, I would recommend a day trip.
The town of "Villedieu-les-Poêles" is about 1 hour (and not too far from Mont St Michel) and is an amazing place to visit to see the work of metal, mainly the forge of steeples, which is the export main city since the Middle East. Age.
In the house, there are many pamphlets and books with more recommendations on what to do in the area.
Specific recommendations for local restaurants:
The Haye Du Puit:
"Pom'Cannelle" - this is a traditional but high quality restaurant offering fantastic but innovative cuisine. Although, by French standards, it is a little more expensive than average, it is an excellent value for a delicious food and a flight compared to British equivalents.
"The Commerce" - it looks like our local "pub", you will often find it full of locals, and for a good reason. Generous local food is very affordable and cooked on a fire in front of you. The menus are excellent value for money.
'The Equinox' - this is a local bar that often plays jazz in July / August. Although they do not really eat, the atmosphere is good and a great place to have a drink or a coffee.
Portbail:
'Aux 13 Arches' - it is a very good restaurant specializing in seafood (much of which is fished within a few kilometers!), It is a more chic place to eat, but again, as seems to be the case in France, is very cheap for exceptional food.
(Reservation recommended)
'The sinners' rendez-vous' - a local fish restaurant overlooking the estuary and a perfect sunset tour. The food is very good and at a very reasonable price.
Although we do not find "Madame croque" on the menu, it's a favorite here!
Other:
'The Sandbox', plague of Lindbergh - a beach restaurant very close just down the road. Although not always open (ring in advance and make a reservation), it reigns a very cool atmosphere and often plays good live music. The location is great.
'Hotel Restaurant Isles (Tortuga)', Barneville-Carteret - this is a great place to relax and have a coffee by the beach. It has a feeling of great quality, but not too uncomfortable.
The lunch is also fantastic. Some of the freshest products I have eaten and a great value. A truly quality establishment
"Hôtel de la Marine", Barneville-Carteret - This is an upscale hotel-restaurant ideal for a little indulgence!
There is a place called "La Maison du Biscuit" in the village of "Sortosville-en-Beaumont" and I am really fighting to understand how to describe it, but I still have to recommend it! The best I can do is ask you to imagine a village organized by Willy Wonka and John Wayne, and you might get close to it! The Biscuit House sells all types of cookies, chocolate, sweets, honey, alcohol, whole foods, I could go on and on! It is also an excellent coffee to spend a few hours in a unique place! A recommended place to buy gifts very well presented, but reasonably priced. Let me know what you think!
In most restaurants you can get what's called a Gourmet Cafe, which is basically a strong coffee and a selection of miniature desserts - a fantastic indulgence!
