The house

  • Quiet, rural area

The interior of the renovated cottage is modern rural, experienced by guests as a romantic, authentic and comfortable holiday home. In the living room (6 x 6 m) there is a fireplace and for cold periods there is a CV. A two-seater and an armchair stand opposite the fire and a brocante dining corner stands in front of the French doors to the private garden terrace. There is a small writing/working corner. The open kitchen in the living room has an oak cooking island with fridge, cooker, oven, kettle, Nespresso machine (and regular coffee machine) and of course all kinds of cooking utensils. TV with Dutch channels available, music system and DVD player.
Upstairs there is a large bedroom (5 x 6 m) with 2 boxspring beds that can be switched to a double bed of 180 x 200, a large antique wardrobe and a sofa. If you want to go on holiday with your baby/toddler, we can adapt the furnishing with cot, high chair, baby bath and playpen.
Next to the bedroom on the first floor is the bathroom (2 x 2m) with toilet, shower and washbasin.
On the terrace there is a table with two chairs and in the surrounding garden (40 x 30 m) - which we will respect during your stay as your garden - a large picnic table and two comfortable sun loungers. So you can choose the best spot in the garden without having to drag furniture around.

The gîte is located in Le Perche, a protected nature reserve in the southern tip of Normandy. This is an area with little tourism. The landscape is characterised by rolling hills, forests, meadows and fields. The gîte is on domain La Sauvagère, a fenced area of 3600 m2, on which also a large family house and in the other furthest corner two old stables stand. It was built around 1800 in the typical style of the region, sandstone-coloured pierres. The common garden (3000 m2) is laid out in the countryside with a view of apple, cherry and plum trees from the terrace of the gite. The gîte is 30 metres from the family house and has its own surrounding garden, which we will respect during your stay as your own (30 x 30 m). At 6 km distance, there are several villages including La Perrière, Pervencheres, the picturesque Bellême and at 12 km a small town Mamers, with all amenities.
The cottage is located in the Perche, a protected natural reserve, in the south of Normandy. The landscape is characterised by valleys, forests, prairies and forests. The gîte is located on the domaine La Sauvagère, a clôturé terrain of 3600 m2, on which also the habitation of the owners, a large normandy longère, and two anciennes écuries are located. The cottage is located 30 meters from the main house and benefits from a part of the garden (30x30 mt) that will be considered private for you during your stay.

Ontzettend fijne, rustige plek.

Restaurants, food & wine

For lovers of French cuisine, Normandy has apples, cheese and meat in the lead. Both in the kitchen and in the drink, from Tarte Tatin to fresh cider and Calvados. The real wine regions are lower down, the Loire, etc. But the many cheeses have their origin in this region, the Camembert, the Pont L'Evèque and the Livarot. In the town of Livarot, you can visit an interesting cheese museum. There are also several cidreries in the area where you can taste their apple products.
On Thursday and Sunday, you can buy fresh bread and pastries from an organic baker in La Perrière, who grows his own grain, grinds it and bakes bread. Highly recommended!
Mortagne au Perche (16 km) is known for its traditional blood sausage, the boudin noir et blanc. In the village are several butchers who sell this specialty.
In our area are many restaurants and brasseries in all price ranges. E.g. at 3 km distance you can enjoy a hot afternoon meal with 4 courses for € 13,50 at the typical French L'Amande in Pervenchères. At restaurant Les pieds dans L'eau in Mortagne various menus start from € 29. Many restaurants also offer an afternoon repast, which is often a simpler version of their evening menu, obviously at a lower rate.
In the gîte you will find a booklet with maps of restaurants in the area.
A number of sausages are native to the region: Camembert, Pont L'Evèque, Livarot..... There are also several cideries in the region where you can sample their pommes-based products.
For example, in Pervenchère, 3 km from la Sauvagère, the typical restaurant "L'Amande" offers a hot meal with 4 plates for €13,50.

Activities

The gîte is located in the Regional Natural Park of the Perche. This landscape alternates groves, forests, meadows and rolling hills with old country houses in the middle of typical villages. It is a destination par excellence for nature/walkers and people who love old stones. The same goes for those who are passionate about horse riding thanks to riding schools and bridle paths.
As well as cycling, you can walk from the cottage and, 6 km away, there is the Bellême forest, with its majestic forests of oak and beech. The forest is registered on the Unesco world heritage list.
In the picturesque village of Bellême - with its special shops - there is an 18-hole golf course (12 km). Closer by is the artists' village of La Perrière, which is excellent for walking to (6 km), having something to eat in the special 'Salon du thé', rummaging through antiques and going back again. Alencon, a lace-making town with a museum, is 30 km away, as are Chartres and its cathedral (80 km) and Le Mans (60 km). You can also visit gardens, for example in the charming village of Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei with its church, which is remarkable for its beautiful frescos and bell tower. Mortagne au Perche (16 km) is a town with a rich architectural heritage with its many 16- and 18-century houses. There are daily markets in the area, on Tuesdays the largest farmers' market in France in L'Aigle (25 km).
In Le Mêle (18 km), where there is a large recreational area, you can swim, sunbathe, paddle boats, play mini-golf, surf, canoe and fish. In Bêlleme and Mortagne au Perche, there are swimming pools.
Also worth seeing is the Oëtre rock, which is located in the Suisse Normande hiking area with the Rouvre gorge. A number of walking routes start here.
In the surrounding villages and towns there are restaurants and brasseries in all price ranges.
