The house
Holiday in a small rural village with stunning views over the rolling hills of Charente countryside. Enjoy all the comforts of this lovely detached converted barn house in the village complete with pool; drive, walk or cycle to the nearby market town of Chalais. You can enjoy the best of both worlds here: village and town life. The house consists of 2 interconnecting parts which makes it ideal for 2 families holidaying together, yet having their own space and own entrance. You will have a choice of 4 double bedrooms, 2 in each part of the house. In total there are 3 bathrooms, 2 in the main house, 1 in the cottage. Dine outside together any time you like. The owners have added also a stone BBQ, a very french way of enjoying al-fresco dining the authentic way. The pool, secured by an electric cover, is a great feature of the house. The lower garden is an ideal space to play or relax. The house has been in the same family for almost 20 years; they love coming here. The interior is light, inviting and cosy.

Heerlijke vakantie gehad. Super gastvrouw! Heel vriendelijk, is er wanneer je haar nodig hebt. Plekje vol privacy, fijn zwembad en prachtig uitzicht. De markt op maandag in Chalais is een aanrader, echt vakantiegevoel! Ook Bordeaux, wel een stukje rijden, maar is zeker de moeite waard.
Het huis is fijn. Tv’s met o.a. Netflix (ideaal voor de kinderen). Kortom, echt een aanrader!Comment from Estelle Deerenberg

Activities
The area is ideal for walking and cycling. The roads are quiet and fairly flat too, especially the country road through the village. In 10 minutes you can reach Brossac's lake Etang Valier, which has a sandy beach, a fresh water lake, club-house facilities, children's play area and mini-golf. There are various horse riding facilities around too. Manoir de Longeveau offers a 9-hole golf club and can be reached in 20 minutes (by car). Further afield you can find another golf-club in Bergerac and another in Vigier. Go-karting can be enjoyed at the Circuit de Haute Saintonge. Chalais even has it's own small airport. The circuit can be reached in about 15 minutes. Suave St Emilion is therefor you to explore and taste all those wonderful wines, to be enjoyed with a delicious lunch at one of the dozens of high end restaurants. Bustling and buzzy Bordeaux is a must too; it will take about 1 hour to reach this interesting town where you can enjoy a huge choice of restaurants, shops, boutiques, musea, art galleries, antique shops and so much more. Angouleme, the capital of Charente, is perched up high and is ideal for a day out, strolling around the streets, shops, restaurants, bars, a town famous for it's international cartoon festival 'La Bande Dessinee' in January and Les Remparts - festival of speed in classic cars held in September each year. Guizengeard's turquoise lakes are also worth a visit.
