One of two of our lovingly restored holiday homes, next to our own converted farmhouse, near the lovely village of Verteuil-sur-Charente. In an ideal location for walking or cycling to discover the rare varieties of wildflowers, wildlife and birds on our doorstep. The cottage sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms. Relax by the pool and sunbathe on on the deck and cool off in the 10m a 5m pool. Enjoy eating al fresco on one of your 2 terraces. Experience a slice of life in rural France.
Just two and a half kilometres,from the cottage, is the lovely village of Verteuil sur Charente. In the village are all amenities including bars and restaurants, a baker, post office, butcher/charcuterie, village shop, hairdresser and of course the beautiful chateau.
Sunset Cottage has been redecorated throughout this year and in addition to the kitchen being re fitted the bathroom has also been done. The lounge has 2 x 3 seater settees with a log burner. For entertainment there is a flat screen television, dvd and a library of books, dvds and games. The kitchen diner has a gas hob and electric oven, ample work surfaces and a fridge'freezer and washing machine. There is a pine dining table for 5 and all the crockery and utensils you should need. The stairs lead off to the 3 upstairs bedrooms, one double, one twin and a small singe. The bathroom is downstairs with a bath and shower over it.
Outside the front of the cottage there is a patio and also a terrace to the side, you can choose to eat in the sunshine or shade. There is garden furniture, parasols and a barbecue. Surrounding the property is an acre of land, which is mainly grass. The whole outside area is fenced and has double gates for access. There are no immediate neighbours, the nearest being 500m away.
There is a boule court, table tennis and games room with snooker and darts for your entertainment. There is the pool with decking so that you will be able to relax in the sun.

In low season (Beginning of September to end of June) surcharges apply for the use of electricity and wood pellets. An allowance of 4 bags of wood pellets and 21 euros of electricity per week will apply. For more information, please contact the owners.

If you are looking for a summer holiday in a tranquil location with your family and friends then you need look no further than Champ Giraud. Set on an acre of land surrounded by fields of sunflower and maize, with woods and quiet lanes for a leisurely stroll, early morning jog or a stroll to the bakery then this is the place for you. There is a pool for a swim or relaxing by plus plenty of space for other activities such as table tennis, billiards or a game of boule maybe. Verteuil has a beautiful turreted chateau that can be visited and sits on the Chatente river. Canoes maybe rented. Further afield is Futuroscope theme park of the moving image, Cognac for visiting the distilleries, Angouleme the city of the comic book, La Rochelle for its attractive old port, Monkey Valley where monkeys roam free amongst the visitors.

Genoten van een deugddoende vakantie bij Liz en Dave , geweldige locatie! Je kan er genieten van de zeer ruime tuin, petanque, dartsen, poolen en het ruime zwembad. Voor elk wat wils , op wandelafstand(ongeveer 35 minuten) van centrum van Verteuil. Een aanrader voor wie graag geniet van de rust en een groene omgeving om te wandelen. Onze hond kon samen met de andere honden volop spelen , zeer leuk allemaal.

As our first gite holiday it exceeded our expectations. The gite itself was spacious, comfortable and very peaceful, with lovely grounds, a great pool and lots of other facilities. Even in 40 plus degree temperatures the gite was comfortably cool. Dave and Liz were very welcoming and helpful and their knowledge of this beautiful area is comprehensive. Highly recommended.

Een weekje verbleven bij Liz en Dave in de Sunset Cottage. We namen op voorhand nog contact via mail om nog wat zaken te vragen en kregen steeds snel en duidelijk antwoord. Eens ter plaatse werden we vriendelijk onthaald. De gite was ruim en proper. In hetzelfde gebouw is er nog een tweede gite en ook de eigenaars wonen er. Zij zitten in feite tussen de twee gites in. Ieder heeft twee aparte terrassen waar je toch privé kan zitten. Het zwembad was ook ruim en goed onderhouden. We zijn er bijna elke dag in geweest.
Liz en Dave gaven ook tips voor leuke uitstappen en dachten hierbij ook mee over kindvriendelijke activiteiten gezien we daar waren met onze twee zoontjes van 3 en 6.
Mochten we nog eens teruggaan naar die streek, zouden we er zeker opnieuw logeren.
Restaurants, food & wine
The nearby village of Vertetuil sur Charente is only a couple of km away with a good selection of shops, restaurants, tea rooms and bars; plus the possibility of a little tour around the chateau during the summer. The small town of Ruffec is 5km away and offers a bi-weekly market and a choice of supermarkets. There is a good selection of resaurants locally and we have identified these on our website.
Activities
Rural location but within walking distance to a village with bars and restaurants. Lots of tracks for walking and cycling. Locally there is a leisure area with a beach area, playground, restaurant and canoe hire. We have 3 bicycles that may be borrowed.

Further remarks
We live on site and are always happy to help but also know how to be discrete, you are on holiday and may prefer your own company. We have a Labrador cross dog who is very freindly.
