The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Pure enjoyment of peace, space and nature

Our beautifully situated 2-person natural house is situated on a very spacious private estate with two lakes for swimming, boating and lazing (total 3 ha). Your privacy is guaranteed, because you are the only user of this sloping nature reserve with its lakes! Although the house is part of a hamlet, it is in a free location.

Because of the location of the house and the layout of the natural terrain, there is an intimate atmosphere. The terrain is worth exploring. Deer, martens and foxes regularly visit our domain; buzzards circle in the sky, the kingfisher regularly shows up at the lakes, where you can swim and row. Under the roof tiles live two seven-sleepers and the hoopoe is a permanent resident a little further on in the village. In summer, the cry of the Golden Oriole can be heard from the treetops. Wild orchids grow on the grounds. A large lawn between the cottage and the first lake offers plenty of opportunity for lazing in the sun.

The characteristic of the house is its simplicity: there is purposely no television, but there is a pick up with a large collection of classical LPs, as well as LPs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Our guests regularly make grateful use of this when they look out over the first lake from the terrace, sipping a glass of wine. Or on a chilly evening by the fireplace, reviving childhood memories.

The house has a living-dining room with fireplace and a (partially) covered terrace overlooking the lake. The open kitchen is equipped with all utensils and crockery, 4 rings, electric oven, extractor fan, microwave and refrigerator. In the separate bedroom there are two coupled single beds (box spring) which can also be placed separately. The bathroom has a shower, washbasin and toilet. To eat and relax outside, there is a hammock and garden furniture.
The house does not have its own internet or telephone connection, but the mobile phone does have a range (phone: reasonable, data: moderate). Smoking is not allowed in the house.
Due to the exceptional nature of this property, we will contact interested parties by telephone prior to final confirmation.

From our guestbook:
"'Like God in France'.
I think I am beginning to understand and feel this saying here. I have been in beautiful places before, but never so private, so quiet and breathtaking".

Surroundings

The holiday home is situated on the edge of the tiny village of La Madrinie (municipality of Roussines) and the Parc Naturel Regional Periogod-Limousin (north-west Dordogne), on the border of the departments Dordogne, Charante and Haute Vienne. The friendly hilly landscape offers an alternation of old villages and towns, forests, lakes and small-scale farms. There are many dreamy little towns, centuries-old churches and stately castles, such as the castle of La Rochefouccault. North of La Madrinie, you will find two large reservoirs (Lavaud and Massignac) with various recreational possibilities. The area is ideal for walking and (sporty) cycling, although guests regularly write in our guestbook that they hardly get around to activities, because they enjoy the beauty, peace and nature on the site itself. It is as if time is running out and there is nothing left but to surrender to the great enjoyment.

Do you want culture as well as nature? A visit to the cities of Angoulême, Périgueux, Brantôme or Limoges is worthwhile (approx. 1 hour's drive). In Cognac (90 km) you can take a look at one of the cognac houses. But also in smaller villages in the direct vicinity you can make discoveries: a Romanesque church, a beautifully situated castle, a regional museum and a prehistoric cave.

Montbron (15 km) is the nearest town with shops, tourist information, culture and a very extensive supermarket (Intermarché). On Wednesday mornings there is a large, cosy market in Piégut-Pluviers (15 km). In the area are small cafe-restaurants and large castles where an excellent menu du jour is served. In the summer months, there are many festivals and activities in the area. Extensive information about the area, facilities, excursion possibilities and walking maps are available in the house.

"It is wonderful here. We enjoyed it to the full. We have seen wild animals: a deer, a pheasant, squirrels. Especially the first week, we let the silence come over us".
