The house
Our gite Maison Engels, located near Hautefort in the French Dordogne, is a cosy detached fully modernised old farmhouse with central heating and wood stove. Spacious garden in front of the house with a cosy family pool. The house has its own driveway and garage.
Entrance is the former living room of the farmhouse which gives access to a bedroom with double bed, the dining room and to the kitchen. An additional reading/dining table are in the entrance room. The kitchen was renovated in 2014 and is equipped with all comforts and appliances (fridge with freezer compartment, electric cooker, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, oven and every imaginable kitchen utensil) and door to rear garden. The dining room has a large dining table with 6 chairs (and room for 10 people). The dining room is separate from the large lounge. The salon is the former stable of the farm and still has a characteristic wooden beamed ceiling. A cosy wood-burning stove is present for additional heating. Bathroom with modern shower and toilet are on the ground floor. The lounge is reached from the dining room or via the French windows.
Stairs from the lounge lead to the 1st floor with spacious hall and two large bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. Here is also the second bathroom with bathtub and second toilet. One of the bedrooms has a small en suite bathroom (i.e. extra sink). The entire first floor still retains the characteristic farmhouse style. There are two extra single beds that can easily be unfolded and placed on the landing or in one of the bedrooms. All bedrooms have plenty of hanging and cupboard space. There are 2 cots and 2 high chairs.
The garage is very spacious and all imaginable tools are available (including the tumble dryer, garden chairs and a baby pram).

The gite is beautifully and quietly situated in a rural setting in the centre of a small residential community (hamlet). The environment is characterized by rolling hills, forest and field, the typical landscape in the Dordogne with beautiful views over the hills and forests. The number of passing cars per day can be counted on one hand. From the house there are several walks to make, through fields and woods. Fruit trees are plentiful. The chickens and ducks of the French neighbour provide a calming atmosphere. The village of St Agnan is less than 1 km away (including the bakery, the church, the bank with ATM and the restaurant where pizzas can also be collected). The supermarket (open 7 days a week!) is located in Hautefort at a distance of 2 minutes by car. Furthermore, all the villages in the immediate vicinity are worth visiting, especially because of their characteristic old alleys, old churches (preferably from the 13th century), abbeys and castles.

Heerlijk ruim huis om vakantie in te beleven. Hosts wonen op 100m afstand, perfect bij vragen etc. Zwembadje is top. Dorp /bakker /supermarkt op loopafstand. Genoten!
Tip, Etang Coucou bezoeken, lekker zwemmen etc. op 5m met de auto. En boek een rondje in de E Cross carts van Paul (bij camping Coucou).
Waterval zwemmen bij Forge d'Ans, zaterdag (en woensdag) markt in Sarlat (50m), dagje ronddwalen in Perigueux.

Jullie hebben daar echt een mooi stekje in een heerlijke omgeving! Ontzettend goed uitgerust en erg rustig gelegen. Alles is voorhanden wat een heel huiselijk gevoel creëert en ideaal met kleine kinderen! We denken er zeker aan om onze vakantie daar nog een keer door te brengen.
Restaurants, food & wine
In this area you are supposed to taste the wines of Bergerac, Pécharmant and Monbazillac. But also the famous wine regions of Bordeaux and St. Emilion are within 1.5 hours reach. Enjoy all the different products.
Although the famous brown limousine cows are mainly kept for their meat, there are also plenty of opportunities for delicious French cheeses. Of course, this can be combined very well with your wine tastings.
The speciality of the area, however, are the ducks (les canards) and geese (les oies), of which you can find the most diverse products for very acceptable prices, although the real 'fois gras' is still pricey. There are special tours possible to see the duck farms including the feeding of the ducks. Furthermore, you are in the walnut centre of France and the famous delicious truffles are often sought. Of course you can buy all local products on the farm. Enjoy the unique combination of pate de fois gras with a glass of Monbazillac.
Activities
The gite itself is the perfect place to quietly wake up and enjoy a French breakfast, the local boulangerie is within walking distance. Depending on the time of year, you can pick fresh cherries, blackberries, apples, walnuts, grapes or figs all within easy reach from the garden. The garden chairs allow you to relax and read a book, listen to music or find inspiration for a day out in the area. A small home library is available. You start of course at the castle in Hautefort a stone's throw from Les Broussilloux, the pride of the mayor who by the way started his career from our house in Broussilloux. You should also not miss the stalactite caves in Tourtoirac (the next village about 5 km from Les Broussilloux) which were only opened for visits in 2010. Of course you can also play the tourist and go to the highlights in the Dordogne (Sarlat, Montignac and Lascaux, the castles, the rivers, the caves). In the immediate vicinity you can also practice sports by playing tennis, golf, horseback riding, mountain biking, swimming, hiking, playing paintball or even riding a quad. But also a visit to one of the many local markets is often worthwhile, whether it is the weekly market, an antique market, a flea market or a special festival that every self-respecting village in the area organizes a few times a year.

- Bed, bath and kitchen linen are included in the price.
- Cleaning costs are included in the price (you are requested to leave the house reasonably clean).
- For the garden there are sun loungers, chairs and camp beds available. Also a fixed (stone) barbeque is present and can be used without obligation (it is greatly appreciated if you provide new charcoal if just run out).
- Common kitchen utensils are available (pepper, salt, sugar, tea, oil and vinegar, detergent, etc.), Senseo and coffee filter.
- A small library with Dutch and English books is available.
- For the little ones, toys (colouring books, pens, ...) are available.
- Normal use of electricity and water are included.
- You will be welcomed personally by the local contact person who lives nearby (also in Les Broussilloux) and therefore for questions and information always easy to reach.
- Every year the gite is for rent from May until October. Check the calendar on this site for availability.
- In the high season it is only possible to rent from Sunday to Sunday. In the low and mid season rental per day is possible.
