The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

Maison Principal was originally a 17th century barn which has been renovated into a luxury holiday home with natural stone walls and visible wooden beams. Through the front of the house you enter into the large and fully equipped kitchen-dining room with a 5-burner Falcon stove with 3 ovens, American fridge, Nespresso coffee maker and dishwasher. There is plenty of dish ware, cutlery and other indispensable kitchen utensils. The large wooden table with 8 chairs and a cosy sitting area around the wood burning stove, TV and DVD player plus BOSE stereo set make this a very comfortable home. For small children there is a camping cot and highchair. WIFI throughout the house. There is a collection of boardgames, books, DVDs and CDs. Via the open staircase in the kitchen-dining room you reach the first floor with two bedrooms. The first bedroom has two single beds which can be placed together. The second bedroom has a wood burning stove and three sleeping places among which a boxspring bed measuring 160x200cm. From both bedrooms you have a view of the typical French courtyard with high trees and a century old barn. Form the landing another open staircase brings you to the top floor, here is another double boxspring bed and adjacent bathroom with shower and wc. There is another shower room and wc on the ground floor. Via the back door you reach the private terrace with large walnut trees where you can spend lovely warm summer evenings. Your holiday starts as soon as you arrive; with made up beds. Thick towels, a large and small one per week per person are included in the price.

Lys d'Avril is the name of the 6 hectare large domain in the charming hamlet near the small village of Glanges. An excellent location to explore the region. The rolling landscape has both meadows and forest. It is an agricultural region with many rural villages, part of the Central Massif, the area where the famous Limousin cattle originates from. Glanges lies in the most southern point of the Haute Vienne Sud, several kilometres north of the Dordogne and Correze and between Limoge and Brive la Gaillarde.
The garden of 1 hectare is filled with flowers, is fully fenced and offers all possibilities to relax at the pool with salt water filtering which you share with the guests of the other house. In the immediate vicinity you can walk in our 2-hectare-large private forest. For groceries you can go to the supermarket, 6 km away in the village of Magnac-Bourg. Here you will also find a bakery, several restaurants, cash machine, 2 GP practices and a chemist. Pierre-Buffiere, Pompadour, Segur-le Chateau, Uzerche, Saint Leonard de Noblat, Masserat, Meuzac and many more beautiful villages are within 30 minutes driving distance.

    bedankt
    Igor

Restaurants, food & wine

The village of Glanges has a small organic living room restaurant, highly recommended . If you want to go to a star restaurant then you can go to La Gorge du Moulin in the town of La Roche l 'Abeille where you can dine near the water. This region has a very large choice of restaurants. There is something for everyone. The covered market halls in Limoges also offer a wide range of local fresh produce such as cheeses, wines, fish and so on. A true paradise for real food and cooking enthusiasts.

Activities

The Limousin is a green region, not swarmed with tourists but very beautiful and it is also called the water tower of France due to its many rivers. The air is clean and the products are pure. There is a longing for the past and for guests a perfect region to unwind. Within 1 hour drive to the north, south or centre are the three largest lakes of the Limousin, Lac de Vassiviere with eight recreational beaches, Lac de Saint-Pardoux with three recreational beaches or Lac du Causse just past Brives where you can swim or do water sports. If you want to stay closer, there are 16 recreational lakes only 16 km away, Plan d'eau de la Roche where you can swim, fish and rent pedaloes and Lac de Forgeneuve where you can water ski. If you prefer kayaking, you can do this in Uzerches and karting is possible in Lubersac. The horse lover can indulge in the French counterpart of the English Ascot, namely horse racing in Arnac-Pompadour opposite the chateau of Madame de Pompadour. Six villages in the Limousin have the title of being one of the most beautiful villages in France : Segur le Chateau, Collonges-la-Rouge, Curemonte, Mortemart, Saint-Robert and Turenne. Glanges is a 25-minute drive from the university town of Limoges, the region's capital, with cosy boutiques, many museums, lively squares with restaurants and Les Halles de Centrales with its many food stalls. Are you a golf lover? There are no less than 9 golf courses within an hour's drive, including the 18-hole golf course, the Saint Lazare, in Limoges.
In summer months it is fun to browse the local fresh produce or flea markets in the Haute Vienne and Correze
