The house
Our holiday home Domaine de Palanchou in France is suitable for 6 persons, has two heated private pools and is child friendly. Dogs are also welcome!
Authentic details
When you drive up the road to our holiday home in France, you see a barn on the left and then the house with the lush front garden. Here you can sit in the sun all day and enjoy the view. Domaine de Palanchou used to be an old farm. You will recognise it by the thick natural stone walls and authentic details such as the wooden beams, age-old plum oven (for which the region is famous), bread oven and fireplace.
Main house (6 persons)
You enter a large hall with on the right a bedroom with a double canopy bed and entrance to the wooden terrace with the swimming pool. In front of you are a staircase up to the attic room with two separate beds where adults or children can sleep. On the left you enter the large living kitchen. Fully equipped with a coffee machine with fresh beans, dishwasher, washing machine (dryer is in the cottage), oven, microwave, kettle, blender and sandwich toaster. There is a window down to the floor so you can watch the sunset while cooking. You walk through the corridor into the cosy living room with wood-burning stove (of course, we have central heating everywhere). On the way you will come across another double bedroom, also with entrance to the wooden terrace. On your left hand side there is a separate toilet and a sturdy bathroom with rain shower.
We do not have a television but we do have a good internet connection! If you come with small children, there are plenty of facilities. Such as toys, 2 highchairs (Tripod of which 1 with baby set), 1 cot and 1 travel cot which we can place everywhere in the house.
Swimming and eating outside
Our new private pool is a heated (up to 26 degrees) saltwater pool of 15x4 meters. This pool is secured with an electric roller screen and is located at the courtyard. Sun loungers and parasols are available.
The other private pool of 5x2.5 metres is on the other side of the house. On the wooden terrace you will find a garden set and you can use the gas barbecue. This swimming pool is also secured and heated (up to 26 degrees).
Large garden
Next to the house, via the driveway, but also from the living room, there is an entrance to the courtyard. Here is a terrace with lounge chairs and a table and chairs on the side of the house. Adjacent to this large courtyard is the large, new swimming pool, the Gîte, the Grange and the entrance to the large barn. In addition, you can walk on our 40,000 m2 of land surrounded by woods and meadows full of wild flowers, old vines and fruit trees.
Child-friendly outdoors
In the Grange we have a trampoline, slide, sandpit, bikes and go-carts and all kinds of outdoor toys for the children. Our red, antique tractor is also here for the enthusiasts! Next to the Grange at the courtyard you will also find our jeu de boules court.
Separate Gîte (2-4 persons)
The Gîte is available for groups who are on holiday together but still want a bit of privacy for 2 people. There is a separate kitchen and bathroom and 2 single boxsprings. The Gîte can be rented on request.
Dogs welcome
We have a rough-haired Border Terrier named Broes who sometimes comes along to France (and has the time of his life there). So dogs are welcome. There are some fantastic walks in the Lot-et-Garonne and you can even go for a brisk morning walk on our property!
There is parking space for several cars.
Our property has, besides a wood burning stove in the kitchen and living room, central heating in all rooms. Although the house stays nice and cool in summer, there are fans and a mobile airco present.

You will find yourself in a friendly and hilly landscape, where the weather is nice all year round. The villages are charming and the castles, such as the castle of Bonaguil and Chateau de Duras, a nice experience. The river Lot meanders through the landscape.
Penne-d'Agenais
The beautiful village of Penne-d'Agenais is a 5 minute drive from our house. Here you can sit on one of the terraces all year round or have lunch in one of the cafes or restaurants. There is a huge basilica Notre-Dame de Peyragude which is well worth a walk, if only for the views over the valley.

Restaurants, food & wine
In Penne d'Agenais you can enjoy a drink or lunch/dinner at Restaurant Le Peyragude. They serve a menu du jour and you sit there among the locals.
L'autre Maison is a boutique-style B&B in Penne d'Agenais. Nice for a light lunch. At the Place Paul Froment you also find pleasant terraces like those of Le Bombecul. You can eat here.
At the water playground on the lac Ferrié is Ô Berges du lac, a simple restaurant, good to go with small children.
Cafe du Centre in Roquecor. Coffee, lunch and dinner, simple but good. Inside and outside seating. They speak English and Dutch.
L'Atelier is in Issigeac, a beautiful village with nice shops. The restaurant has a courtyard where you can eat well.
Looking for Michelin stars? You will find them at Le jasmin, Michel Trama and l'Auberge le prieuré.
You can eat at a classic French castle at Château de l'Hoste. Book a table on the terrace or go for a relaxed dinner in the brasserie.

Activities
We were looking for a nice place that is easy to reach. With good weather, peace and quiet and yet also enough distraction and sociability. We found it all in the Lot-et-Garonne. You can get here in 1.5 hours by plane from Rotterdam. With a hired car it is still an hour's drive from Bergerac. If you want to travel environmentally friendly, the TGV is a good alternative.
You end up in a friendly and hilly landscape, where the weather is nice all year round. The villages are charming and the castles like the castle of Bonaguil and Chateau de Duras a nice experience. The river Lot meanders through the landscape.
Bastide villages and evening markets
The region is known for its medieval bastide villages such as Monflanquin, Villereal and Monpazier. Like a checkerboard, the streets surround a central market square. Combined with the summer evening markets where you can eat at long tables with live music, they contribute to a real holiday feeling. There is good cycling and walking here, you are close to the Bergerac wine region, the attractions in the Dordogne and even the sea can be a weekend getaway!
Castles
Fans of castles, but also lovers of beautiful views can indulge themselves. There are plenty in the area! The castle of Biron (photo), the castle of Bonaguil and Chateau de Duras were our favourites. The castle of Gavaudun is a bit of a drive away and more of a substantial ruin. But the combination with a walk (several walks start from here) and a delicious pizza at Café de Gavaudun as a reward, make it a nice day out.
Villages
Pujols is one of the most beautiful bastide villages of France, with views over the valley of the Lot. Cahors is the largest town in the region. Surprising are the medieval secret gardens. Issigeac is a beautiful village with houses dating back to the 13th century, nice boutiques and restaurants.
Walking & cycling
Close to home you can find the most beautiful walks, for example from Penne d'Agenais. You can also make fine cycling trips through the rolling landscape. View the interactive walking map or cycling map on the website of the Lot-et-Garonne for more inspiration.
The castle of Gavaudun is a fortress, beautifully situated on a protruding rock. You can make nice walks here, for example along the mills of the La Lère. Enjoy a pizza afterwards under the grapevines at Le Cafe de Gavaudun.
Further away, but a special experience, is the towpath at Bouzies where you can now walk and cycle. The towpath is completely cut out of the rock here.
Strolling
Strolling in the gardens is what you do in Marqueyssac. The location is breathtaking. The gardens of Eyrignac have been in the hands of the same family for 22 generations, who still live in the manor house.
Swimming, amusement parks and other activities
If you are tired of villages and castles, there is still plenty to do! Close to our house there are small swimming lakes, water parks and amusement parks.
Like 5 minutes drive, fun for the little ones is the water playground at Lac Ferrié. A lake with beach, water activities and a restaurant is Montaigu Plage in Montaigu de Quercy.
Parc en ciel is an adventure park in the trees, here you will also find a natural swimming pool. Walibi Sud-Ouest is good for a whole day out and in Toulouse, there is Cité de l'Espace, a unique theme park about space and space travel.
With a boat, sup, canoe or kayak on the river Lot is possible at Capitainerie (Port de Penne). Further away, but certainly worthwhile, is a boat trip from the little port of Bouzies, for example with an electric 'gabarot', a small boat for about four to eight people with a tarpaulin as cover, against the sun. Nearby is a beautiful medieval village, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.
If you like caves, you can visit the underground caves of Lastournelle on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July and August.
Wines, wines, wines, go to Chambert Castle in Floressas. Tours in English, a cosy room for wine tasting and the possibility of lunch on the terrace.

Rates from October to April 2022/2023 exclude school holidays.
In the school holidays between 1 October and 30 April 2022/2023, the rate is €1975 per week.
Our guests receive a Welcome Pack (due to arrival on Sunday).
Our property has central heating in all rooms, in addition to a wood-burning stove in the kitchen and living room.
Fans and a mobile air conditioner are available.
