• "Magnificent house..."
• "Fantastic accommodation..."
• "Very pretty and very comfortable home..."
• "Fabulous property ... all possible requirements covered..."

If you’ve noticed over the years, that even the most expensive holiday rentals, while they may be comfortable and functional, often look a little tired - carpets and furniture a bit worn out; some decoration and maintenance needed and so on, then you’ll find Villa Magnolia in Puivert, Aude very different!
You will enjoy the exceptional presentation of the house: furnished and equipped to the highest standards of decoration, furnishing, design, facilities and equipment. You expect it to be clean, tidy and comfortable, but you'll also find it beautiful and superbly equipped.
The accommodation consists of a spacious 19th century stone house, with three large double bedrooms (one with en-suite shower room), a large bathroom, two large reception rooms, including one with a wood-burning stove; recently renovated kitchen and utility, gas stove and separate oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, etc. The larger bedroom can accommodate four people, in single or double beds.
There is free Wi-Fi and a 42-inch high-definition TV with DVD player.
The substantial walls keep the interior cool in summer and warm in winter. There is a large, well-maintained garden at the back, with a charcoal barbecue, terrace and a view of the fields to the hills above.
The house can accommodate up to eight people and is ideal for families. It can easily accommodate three couples, or a mix of adults and children.
The owners, Alan and Marianne, live next door and will be happy to advise you and help you have a perfect holiday!
We give you a free basket of logs for the wood-burner, with additional baskets, on request, for 5 euros each.

You will find Puivert nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 50 minutes from Carcassonne airport and less than 90 minutes from those of Perpignan and Toulouse. It is a historic village, with its own castle that played its part in the 13th century Albigensian (Cathar) crusade; a swimming/fishing lake, local museum, a gliding club and several high-quality restaurants. It features La Brasserie du Quercorb, a welcoming bar serving locally brewed craft beers for continental and British tastes, where locals and holidaymakers gather to chat and relax after long days in the sun.

Our guests enjoy exploring a region steeped in history, which is the subject of the atmospheric books in the Languedoc Trilogy by the author, Kate Mosse, that tell the tragic and bloodthirsty story of religious conflicts from the 13th to the 16th century, intertwined with more modern themes of intrigue and espionage. Much of her most recent novel, The Burning Chambers, actually takes place in Puivert, especially in its ancient castle!

The legend of the White Lady of Puivert and the Great Flood in 1279 is another fascinating episode in the history of the region known as "The Quercorb".

The Aude/Ariège region is beautifully rural and is best known for its agriculture and wine production. Industry has been in decline since the 1970s and while tourism is helping to fill the void, there is still plenty of room for expansion, before it gets anywhere near as busy as its best-known competitors, the Dordogne and Provence - so the cost of living is lower, which you will find is reflected in food and drink prices.

"La Dépêche" newspaper describes the gastronomy of Aude thus:

"... a selection of gourmet specialties: the Cochonnailles of the Black Mountain and the Land of Sault; the capon and poularde of the Lauraguais; Limoux's fricassée; Cassoulet with goose or duck confit from Castelnaudary; the wild boar civet of the Corbières; poultry and lamb from Cathar Country; Its bouillabaisses, oysters (Leucate), shellfish (Gruissan mussels), crustaceans, grilled and smoked fish; and the other specialities and recipes from all the nooks and crannies of Aude (goat, sheep and cow's cheeses, honeys, nougats, glazed chestnuts and oreillettes)."
