The house

  • Quiet, rural area

Gite La Grange is located at Domaine de Montsalvy, which is highly valued by its guests and scores no less than 9.2 out of 80 reviews on the Dutch Zoover website (reviews of holiday destinations ). La Grange has an atmosphere of past times and is at the same time a very cosy gite. On the terrace, with a parasol-like vegetation of some beautiful velvet trees, are a round mosaic table with four chairs, two comfortable loungers and a private barbecue. Due to its location, the gite provides a great compromise between privacy and contact with other guests.
La Grange was converted into a gite in 2009 and was originally the former tobacco barn, where the leaves were hung from the high ceiling to dry. This original character has been preserved during the conversion into a gîte, with the original oak beams and the beautiful yellow natural stone walls still exposed. On the ground floor there is a cosy sitting area with a double bed sofa, two leather armchairs and a large table with satellite TV and CD-MP3 player with USB connection. The fully equipped, open kitchen with dishwasher and large 5-burner gas stove with electric oven and extractor hood is also located on the ground floor, as well as the bathroom with rain shower, wash basin and WC. The first floor is a mezzanine with a spacious double bed. Of course the gite has free WIFI both inside and on the terrace. La Grange is suitable for 2 to 4 people.

La Grange is within walking distance (1.5 km) from the village of Dégagnac, where there is a small shop (for bread, dairy, vegetables, newspapers), a bar, restaurant and post office. Gourdon, just 12 minutes by car, has supermarkets, a weekly market, all kinds of shops, numerous restaurants, a cinema and a station. Many sights of the Lot and the Dordogne are within easy reach; a short summary of sights and the driving distance: Beautiful Domme: 20min; super nice Roque Gageac and Beijnac: 30 minutes, pleasant and very culturally rich Sarlat: 30 minutes; authentic Cahors: 30 minutes; breathtaking Rocamadour: 60 min and impressive Saint Cirq-Lapopie: 60 min. The famous caves of Padirac, Pech-Merle and Cougnac are also worth a trip. In the Lot, the concentration of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages' is no less than 6 times greater than the average in France!

Restaurants, food & wine

Various domain products are available, including homemade fig, blackberry and plum jam (consisting only of fruit and canning sugar), nut liqueur, walnuts from our own orchard, mint tea and a range of white, rosé and red wines from renowned Cahors producer Chateau Les Croisille. BBQ, pizza and tapas evenings are organised twice a week on the estate during the summer season. Table d'Hôtes is offered outside high season.
The region around Cahors is known for its distinctive red wines, melons de Quercy, magret de canard, foie gras, aromatic truffles, almost sweet walnuts and delicious cheeses. All these products are available from producers, at the many regional markets (including Gourdon, Cazals, Domme, Cahors) and in supermarkets. In the immediate vicinity there are numerous restaurants where you can taste all these delicious ingredients; Of course we are happy to give you advice!
Owner Theo Drummen has a passion for wine and also regularly organises blind wine tastings and wine knowledge is increased in a fun way.
Wine and cooking workshops are also offered at the fringes of the summer season.

Activities

Near la Grange you can swim, play tennis, table tennis, Jeux de Boule, table football, volleyball, badminton, walking and cycling. There is also a possibility to take tennis lessons, which are given by owner Theo, a certified KNLTB tennis teacher. If you like horse riding, it might be good to know that there are two riding stables in Dégagnac. You can make beautiful canoe and kayak trips on the Lot and Dordogne rivers. Moreover, the rivers and nearby lakes are perfect for fishing. In addition, there is the option of on-site language instruction (English, French and Spanish), both for beginners and advanced students, or for secondary school students, who want to be "brushed up" for a few hours during their holiday. These lessons are given by co-owner Ellen, who has a background as a teacher of Spanish and English.
