The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

The Grange is a large, airy (400 square metres) converted barn with three bedrooms with ensuite showers/bath. It sleeps 6/8 people in single or double beds as required. And seats up to 12 people in the dinning room and on the terrace so that you can add to your numbers using our chambre d'hote rooms.

The Grange is one or two houses to rent at Cote Grange which is a recently renovated farm courtyard. It is set in profound rural South west France, in a regional park in the Lot Department, and looks out over kilometres of Woodland. They have been created out of the old stone and benefit from a 15 metre length swimming pool surrounded by cascading gardens with secluded zones to create a karma for rest, rejuvenation and creative thinking.

On a satellite map of Europe, Cotegrange is located in the region which could arguably be said to have least orange light. Our view is unencumbered and the air is fresh to sleep well. We are in a small village with no facilities but 10 km is Cajarc, a market town with more choice of restaurant than you would expect for its size, perhaps due to its attractiveness and its connection to the Pompidoo family. Restaurants vary from chic to imformal, expensive to more affordable..

Restaurants, food & wine

Quercy is a région renoun in France for its' food; truffle, foie gras, walnuts, goats cheese, duck and lamb, seasonal fruit including plums, figs, melons and apples, and saffron are often on the menu. Many restaurants make good use of these local produce whether they are the local's restaurant, a brasserie or practising haute cuisine. Cajarc has one of the widest choicest of restaurant I have seen for a small attractive market town. Lunch at a brasserie followed by the weekly shop at the open air market on Saturday, is somehting I can personally recommend. Another recommendation is to go to Limogne market on Sunday morning, have coffee and watch the world go by, then buy a freshly cooked farm chicken or some locally cured ham, some tomatoes, peeches and freesh baguette and bottle or wine and have a picnique by the river.

Activities

Through us you can book a course of four mornings, drawing with Patrick Laroche anytime over the summer. Or come for the week on 13 May 2017 and learn how to or improve your oïl painting skills with Sarah Jane Moon.
Puyjourdes is in the heart of a regional park with tracks going from the village out into the Quercy forrests and pastures. Bikes can be hired and delivered anywhere, even electric ones if you would like a little help. There are also trekking ponies but we supply maps so that you can go for a walk if that is what you would prefer.
The area is buzzing with music and arts during the warmer months. Check the local tourist website for détails of concerts, fetes and exhibitions. This area of the Lot in particular has been long renoun for its connection to the arts and there are plenty of small galleries exhibiting talent that would sell at a much high price in the capital cities. Muscians as well as artists have found solist in this area and in our village of 90 people we have 3 professional muscians. In July, they perform a rock concert which is very poplular for miles around. The first band up at 1900 are the youth (Under 16) who were given a resounding approval by my small daughters. The performances peak at 9am with the professionals. All bands have at least a member who live in Puyjourdes.
