The house

Martel is a restored 15th century château. The ground floor has a dining room, huge kitchen with an Aga, two sitting rooms and a downstairs loo. All the rooms are large with interesting architectural features, except for the loo, which is small but characterful. All the rooms downstairs have access to the garden.
A spiral stone staircase from history leads to the first floor. There are three first floor bedrooms, two doubles with ensuite bathrooms. The third is a double with a child's bed in it and a shower room just across the coridor. Again all the bedrooms are large, airy and interesting.
The staircase continues up to another floor with two large double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. One of these bedrooms also has a single bed. There are two futons that can go wherever they might be needed. There is a laundry room with a shower in it on this floor.
As Martel is our home, when not being rented out to guests, we do not allow pets. I suffer from allergies.

Martel is in the south-west of France, in the delightfully French department of the Tarn-et-Garonne. Seventy kilometres north of Toulouse. There is easy access to the autoroute A20. Blagnac airport is an hour or so away. The department capital, Montauban, is 15 kilometres to the south. The TGV from Bordeaux stops there, en route to Toulouse.

Restaurants, food & wine

The local vineyard is Montels, ten kms. Various restaurants can be found locally or in Caussade, on the river at Cazals and Montauban. Local markets provide excellent local produce and, for those with serious interest in food , the Victor Hugo market in Toulouse.
Local Gascon wines can be bought in caves and supermarché.

Activities

Martel has a very peaceful atmosphere, is surrounded by a two hectare garden, with a 12*6 metre totally private swimming pool and wild areas with wild flowers and wildlife. The surrounding area is farmland so, apart from the occasional tractor, the only things to disturb the peace are butterflies, bumble bees and the odd frog.
Réalville, a big village two and half kilometres away, where croissant can be bought for breakfast.
The nearest town is Caussade, 9 kms, has several supermarkets. When Covid restrictions are lifted, it also has an excellent market on Mondays, several restaurants and a small water park.
Other historic towns well worth visiting include Montauban, St Antonin-Noble-Val and Bruniquel. Further afield, Albi, Cordes and Moissac are full of delight.
There are tennis courts locally, golf, bicycle hire and canoeing on the Aveyron.
