Restaurants, food & wine

To eat locally, there is a wonderful restaurant nearby which overlooks Lake Rochereau and offers breathtaking scenery. Pouzauges, the nearest town, has many restaurants if you prefer a tasty light dinner at reasonable prices.
Located in Pouzauges, in the heart of the bocage, 10 minutes from Puy du Fou, Casse-Croûte Vendéen is a family restaurant offering a unique concept. It combines taste, tradition and modernity to welcome you in a magical setting. For wine tasting "Le Domaine de la Barbinière" is located in central "Bocage Vendéen". The 75-acre vineyard flourishes on the slopes of the Lay valley around Chantonnay.

Activities

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Le Marais, in the south of the Vendée is a vast area of wetlands, home to an amazing variety of flora and fauna. Boat trips can be taken from Coulon and Maillezais. There are many castles in the region, but the two most important are the Château de la Guignardière, a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture, and the castle of Tiffauges, built between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries and home to the infamous Blue-beard.
Les Sables d'Olonne is a popular resort with shops, nightlife and even a casino.
There are a number of adventure parks in Vendee.
Pierre Brun Park can be found in the Mervent forest and has a range of bouncy castles, trampolines and bumper boats.
Indian forest Moutiers-les- Mauxfaits is an obstacle course, high maxi-bungee and paintball etc..
If you like a little less physical theme parks, Puy du Fou is one with a difference and makes a great family day out. It replays the history of the Vendée with actors, horse-men, falconers and stuntmen and is truly spectacular.
The beautifully maintained zoo at Palmyra is also worth a visit, which houses some 1600 animals including rhinos and polar bears.
For slides and pools, visit the O'Gliss Waterpark Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits  or Atlantic Toboggan at Les Becs.
Or try horseback riding or maybe karting - (there are 11 circuits in the Vendee).
Museums, galleries and CULTURE
Fontenay le Comte, the birthplace of Rabelais, home to the Vendée Museum and the Castle of Newfoundland with its collection of clothing from the 18th and 19th century.
Abbey Eleanor of Aquitaine in Nieul-sur-l'Autise has beautifully preserved cloisters and a multimedia museum.
The 127-hectare lake complex at Rochereau near Chantonnay and just 7 minutes drive from the cottage at Manoir de La Baudonniere, has a 2 kilometre stretch for carp fishing at night, whereas the small well stocked Plan d'eau that most villages have, offer a haven of peace and tranquillity. These local lakes often come under a permit that can be obtained from the local Mairie or Tabac and permits can often be purchased for a single day. There are often local fishing competitions which attract large numbers of competitors and of course have the obligatory refreshment stall.
