Charming, fully restored Vendeen cottage, sleeping 4, situated in a small hamlet of 5 houses and a farm, on the edge of a small village.

Chez Marthe is situated within a small hamlet in the Vendeen countryside, perfect for walking and cycling (4 bikes for use). Just 5 minutes walk away is a lake with fishing and boating, and with many picnic areas around its shores. The village of St-Vincent-sur-Graon is 2 minutes by car, with church, baker’s, small general shop and 2 bars. About 10 minutes away is the larger village of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits which has banks, post office, supermarkets, bars,dentist, English speaking doctor, and a historic covered market hall with weekly market.
The county town of La Roche-sur-Yon is 15 minutes away and offers big hypermarkets and shops, plus a large indoor shopping mall.

Mooi huisje en gastvrije mensen. Wel jammer dat we bij thuiskomst een onverwachte vervelende mail ontvingen over vlekken in het matras.

It was very nice to meet Martin and his family and we are happy that he thought our gite was nice .
We are sorry that he was annoyed to receive an email about some issues with the bedding etc.
But these things have to be addressed and communicated with Martin when we are left in a difficult situation when new guests are arriving.
We are very disappointed as this is the first time in 23 years that we have received any negativity.

Restaurants, food & wine
This is the heart of the Vendee’s wine-producing area, with a well-directed wine route for visiting and tasting. There is a good selection of restaurants nearby, to suit all budgets, including a Michelin Star rated. Possibly the best selection of seafood in France, with nearby mussel and oyster farms.
Activities
Within a 10 minuete drive is the Indian Forest adventure park, also a fantastic water park O' Gliss.
The larger village of Moutiers-les-Maufaits with it’s historic covered market is 5 minutes away and has banks, post office, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, chemist, a dentist, and an English speaking doctor.
The town of La Roche-sur-Yon is 15 minutes away and offers big hypermarkets and shops, plus a large indoor shopping mall.
Vast sandy beaches ( naturist areas on these beaches if that is your preference) with the EC Blue-Flag award are 15/20 minutes by car, also the resort of La Tranche-sur-mer. Les Sables d’Olonne, famous for the start and finish of the Vendee Globe Solo round the world yacht race, is 30 minutes away offering a beautiful, sheltered, sandy beach, promenade, fishing port and quay side restaurants. The famous, beautiful, historic town of La Rochelle is 50 minutes away.
There are many local places of interest and the famous ‘son et lumiere’ of le Puy-du-Fou, and it’s daytime ‘Grand Parcours’ (theme park – a whole day of entertainment for children and adults). Futuroscope, la Venise Verte and the Ile de Re are within easy reach.
This part of the coast – known as ‘La Cote de Lumiere’ – is famous for its long sunny days and it’s sunshine record second only to that of the South of France.

Further remarks
Whilst the gite adjoins the owners house, it is at right-angles and totally independent, with own garden, patios and parking. The owners are available for any help required (translations, reccomendations, reservations etc.) French and English speaking, also the assistance of nearby Dutch friends if required.
Price includes all reasonable use of water, gas and electricity.
