The house
Gîte Pain-de-Sucre is situated at the edge of the National Parc du Queyras, just outside Guillestre.
The ruin dating from 1647 has been converted into a spacious luxury chalet consisting of two flats. Downstairs behind the gîte is a small cosy camping site for a maximum of 6 tents.
The house is completely free on a plateau that runs into woodland, from where you have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains (Les Ecrins and the Queras). At the edge of the terrain the river Guil flows 125 m. lower through an impressive gorge.
The gîte is a good base for numerous sporting and cultural activities, both summer and winter.
The gîte is comfortably furnished. Downstairs is an open kitchen with a dining table and a sitting area. Also on the ground floor are two bedrooms, one with two beds and a smaller one with one bed. Furthermore, there is a shower, a room with three sinks and a separate toilet.
An open staircase leads to the spacious loft with a sitting area and another dining table. There are two single beds and a sofa bed (unfolded, this is a bed of 140 x 200 cm).
From the cottage you can walk straight outside to the spacious terrace and the grounds around it. In summer you have the sun all day, but there are also easy places to find shadow.

Here you can enjoy the beautiful nature around the house all year round. Don't be alarmed if in the silence you suddenly hear the scream of a mountain marmot or a golden eagle. Mosquitoes will not bother you here. The hot and dry summers (with an average of more than 300 days of sunshine)
are ideal for all kinds of outdoor sports.

Een rustig gelegen, zeer fraaie gite. Volop mogelijkheden tot allerlei sporten in de directe omgeving. Wij maakten vooral veel wandeltochten, deden een bomenklimpark in Risoul en een heel toffe canyoning via Rob van Canyon Experience, gevestigd in Guillestre. De table d'hote is er erg lekker, je hoeft niet meer naar een restaurant in de buurt te zoeken. Bj heet weer is het natuurbadje op het eigen terrein ideaal. Niet voor niets komen velen hier vaker terug.

Further remarks
The access road is winding, a bit bumpy and not very wide. It will always remain that way. It is part of the location of our site, in the middle of the beautiful rough nature. We are not going to change a thing!
The electricity of the house is generated by solar panels. This means that power guzzlers such as hair dryer, etc. can not be used. A laptop is no problem at all and there is also Internet. The fridge works on 24 volts and can be left on day and night.
The house is not connected to the sewer but there is a septic tank in the garden. You are requested to use as much as possible biodegradable resources.
The gîte is heated with a wood stove. Because the house is well insulated (including double glazing) it is very easy to heat. Next to and near the house is a large stock of wood in bite-sized chunks, which can be put in the stove right away. So you don't have to take care of your own wood supply and you don't have to chop or saw the wood.

You must bring your own bed linen, towels and tea towels.

The size of the 6 duvets is: 135 x 200 cm.
The pillows are of the usual size.
