The house
Originally built as a stable, Chez Oz is constructed from cob, or adobe, with whitewashed walls, exposed beams, and a curved tiled roof. It overlooks the traditional Provençal village of Cotignac. Four guests can comfortably stay in two bedrooms.
At the back of the house is a garden where guests can dine on the terrace and enjoy the spectacular view of the village and valley below and dramatic backdrop of steep cliffs and caves above.
The ground floor is open-plan, with a fully-equipped fitted kitchen, two dining areas, and a bright and comfortable living room with sofas surrounding a large open fireplace. French doors open onto the terrace.
Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a double bed and one with a pair of twin beds. The modern bathroom has a bathtub, a separate shower and a toilet. The house is a short stroll from the centre of the village.

A warm, friendly, and multicultural village, Cotignac has attracted musicians, artists, writers and business people from other parts of France and around the world. At the heart of Cotignac is the Cours Gambetta, where the thick foliage of plane trees shades the terraces of cafés and restaurants. In this community of 1,800 inhabitants, home to 18 fountains, the sound of water is never far away and it accompanies the visitor through the narrow streets and archways, past intricately carved doorways and stone houses renovated in harmony with their surroundings.
The countryside around Cotignac is abundantly rich in vines and olive groves. The area is more peaceful than the hectic Mediterranean coast, and enjoys a wonderfully mild climate throughout the year. The fringe seasons of Fall and Spring are particuarly appealing.
Restaurants, food & wine
Cotignac hosts a market every Tuesday morning on Cours Gambetta, where locals gossip over coffee and choose among the display of local cheeses, honey, truffles, olive oil, fruit and vegetables, home-cured ham and sausages.
Activities
Close to Cotignac, many interesting and characteristic villages wait to be explored, giving the perfect opportunity to find a hidden gem of a restaurant for a peacefully slow-paced and lengthy lunch.
At the foot of the Rocher can be seen traces of the earliest dwellings, caves and grottos where people and their animals sheltered from the attacks of the Saracens and other raiders. Troglodyte living continued for some centuries as the village slowly developed around the present Place de la Mairie and its clock-tower.
The popular beaches of the Mediterranean coast are just an hour's drive, and a popular day trip is to follow the coast to the independent principality of Monaco, home to glamourous casinos.
Closer to home, plan to walk or cycle through wooded hills and meadows among the scents of rosemary, thyme, lavender and sage, and the colours of many wild flowers.
On nearby Lac Sainte-Croix, one can enjoy sailing and wind-surfing, fishing in the rivers, rafting and canoeing. Rock-climbing is available in the spectacular canyon of the Verdon river, a large nature reserve where one can hike a network of trails or dive in the emerald waters of the Verdon.
