Wonderful and vast walking area, excellent wines and good restaurants. Lots to discover from comfortable gite on the edge of romantic village.

Gigondas (Vaucluse) is a charming village. Winding streets, a clattering fountain, the village square under the plane trees. The village (600 inhabitants) lies at the foot of a vast and breathtaking mountainous area: the Dentelles de Montmirail, a paradise for walkers. Mont Ventoux is a 25-minute drive away. A little further away are places like Gordes or St. Rémy de Provence, Gorges du Verdon and the Camarque. There are interesting cities to discover such as Avignon, Orange, Arles and Aix-en-Provence. And restored medieval villages such as Séguret and Les Baroux. In Vaison-la-Romaine and Carpentras there are weekly lively markets with beautiful local products. The Mediterranean Sea is an hour and a half away by car.

Culturally there is plenty to experience: Orange has its opera season outside in the antique Roman theatre: the Chorégies d’Orange during the summer. The international theatre festival takes place in Avignon in July. During the international piano festival in Roque d’Anthéron, master pianists give impressive performances in the open air. In Arles you can visit the international photo festival in summer.

Restaurants, food & wine

The Gigondas is a top wine from the Cotes-du-Rhone region. Other Vaucluse wines also have a great reputation, such as the Vacqueras and the Cairanne. The apéritif / dessert wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is produced about 5 kilometers in the village of the same name.
All these wines accompany meals in countless good restaurants in the area. From the typical Provencal cuisine in a romantic plane garden (Les Tuileries, Violes), to a kitchen with allure and panoramic terrace (Les Florets, Gigondas)

Activities

A variety of walks through the Dentelles de Montmirail start almost right outside your front door. In the vicinity you can also do all kinds of other walking tours. And there are also plenty of opportunities for climbing (possibly with a local teacher / guide), horse riding and mountain biking in the area. A little further, on the Ardèche river or on the Sorgues, you can go on an adventurous canoe trip. In nearby Camaret you will find a (9 hole) golf course. There are (outdoor) swimming pools in, among others, Beaumes de Venise (5 km). Between Entrechaux and Mollans you can relax in the Toulourenc. Advice: close the day with a 'fruit de mer' platter on the terrace of restaurant St. Hubert in Entrechaux. An recreational natural swimming lake, with eating facilities, is Plan d’Eau de Salettes in Mormoiron.
Furthermore, the region is of course a small paradise for (fanatic) cyclists: you can venture a climb on Mont Ventoux, for example.
The Gigondas tennis court is within walking distance of the gite, you can book a court via the tourist office. Of course, the village has its own petanque/jeu de boules court.

Further remarks

A car is essential here. The péage (Bollène exit) is about half an hour away. There are cheap flights to Marseille (5 minutes drive from the gite), the TGV stops in Avignon (a 40-minute drive). In both cases, car rental is easy (and linen is available for our guests).
Rental prices are all in. The costs for final cleaning are 65 euros.
