NEW!
In the quiet old centre of Rustrel lies between a number of old buildings, a stone's throw from the large castle from the 16th century (and the public swimming pool behind it) this sweet, beautifully renovated 2-person cottage 'Sous le Château', which in addition to the beautiful modern design also offers a surprising amount of comfort and is fully equipped: washing machine, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, induction cooker, microwave, rain shower, extra large sink, wonderfully large new beds (1.80 x 2.00 meters), a nice sofa on each floor, good wifi, smart TV with 4K and Netflix built in, extensive tableware, nice garden set, mosquito nets, mist system to keep the terrace cool, underfloor heating for the cold winter months and so on and so forth.

The design is striking and unique, everything has been thought through. Liedewy Heetvelt (Artiste du Bois) designed and manufactured most of the furniture and Elske (photographer) created most of the art on the walls and chose the colour schemes for the cottage. What we could not make ourselves, we let others do, for example handmade crockery in a special colour, or a beautiful banister according to our own design.

The little garden gives enough privacy, while from the terrace you have a view over the cosy old neighbourhood.

The house is close to the bakery and the supermarket. Within a minute you have a fresh croissant on your plate and in the evening you can sit under the stars on one of the cosy terraces at the restaurants or on your own sheltered terrace. The house has two terraces where you can relax overlooking centuries-old houses and gardens, with the mountains in the distance. The small street is very quiet and without traffic, you are practically the only resident.

Restaurants, food & wine

Typical wines of the region are the Côte du Ventoux and the Côte du Luberon. A very fine wine domain nearby is Puy Marquis, which is praised by Dutch chefs, but another good wine is la Canorgue, where the film 'A Year in Provence' by Peter Mayle was shot. Usually, people drink rosé here, especially in the summer.
In Rustrel, there is an inn with a restaurant where you can eat simply and well. At the bakery you can have lunch on the large terrace outside and just outside the village is a good pizzeria with a large shaded terrace, where the salads are excellent (and the pizzas too). Within fifteen minutes drive you will find a variety of good restaurants, we recommend them to you.

Activities

Rustrel is one of those typical French villages from the stories, that you immediately love: it is located in the beautiful Provence, with its vast lavender fields, olive trees and vineyards and time sometimes seems to stand still. People still have time to talk to each other and like to eat or drink something on one of the cosy terraces.
So you can relax in your own spot or throw a ball on the jeu-de-boules pitch nearby.
At 50 metres there is a lovely baker, who bakes fresh croissants every morning, and a little further on a supermarket with the most fantastic goat's cheese. Then there is a bar-tabac, a post office, a couple of galleries and a weekly small market, so you don't have to leave immediately to do your shopping.
There is also a large municipal swimming pool, open in July, August and September, 5 minutes' walk away. You can also rent electric bikes and go for a ride in the beautiful surroundings.
Rustrel is known for its beautiful ochre quarries, where you can enjoy walking through a vast nature reserve with brilliant orange, yellow and red colours.
Furthermore, you can go to typical Provencal markets, there is one every day in the area, but the one on Saturday in Apt is one of the most beautiful.
There is a bus to Apt (11 km) and from there you can take the bus to Avignon (50 km) or do a day trip to Aix-en-Provence (50 km) for only 3 € per ride.
Or you can visit wine estates nearby and taste wines. Or visit a lavender distillery, or a goat cheese factory.
There are also many galleries in the various villages in the area and in the summer there are many nice music festivals of high quality in the area.
In short: there is enough to do to entertain you for 2 weeks and still go home relaxed.

Further remarks

The walls of the house are up to 1 metre thick, which means that even in high summer it is cool inside and in the late season you will not be cold because the walls still radiate comfortably.
The living area is 50 square metres, spread over two floors. The shower and the toilet are adjacent to the bedroom on the first floor.

We make the beds up as either a double bed or two single beds. Please indicate your preference and we will make it up when you arrive.

The street is car-free. You can unload your car close to the house.
Elske works across the street in her gallery, so if you need us, we are there during the day and also by whatsapp, phone or mail you can almost always reach us to ask for tips or to coordinate things.

Please read our guestbook to be convinced and if you have any questions just send us a message or give us a call.
Best wishes and see you soon!
