The house

  • Quiet, built-up area

Le Petit Jardin is on the lower ground floor of a lovingly restored, characterful village house set in the ramparts of Sablet. Original archways and exposed stone are just some of the authentic features of this home - the bedroom is in a turret, one of the nine to be found in the 15th century ramparts of this picturesque Provençal village. The traditional stone walls help to keep this home cool in the hot summer months and are also complemented by a full central heating system, making Le Petit Jardin suitable for all seasons. The fully-fitted kitchen is modern, spacious and includes a dining area. The inside seating area is bright and roomy, with a big French window looking out over the neighbouring terracotta rooftops and plane tree. The shower room has a large walk-in shower, sink and wc. There is also a desk in the hallway - an ideal place for your laptop! Stay in Le Petit Jardin, Sablet and enjoy a real slice of Provençal history.....THE PRICE INCLUDES BED LINEN, TOWELS AND CLEANING FEE.

The entrance to Le Petit Jardin is from a pretty, cobbled square, lined with cypress, pine and mulberry trees and where there is a stunning, panorama viewing point. The Place des Barrys (Provençal for ramparts) is just one of the hidden gems of the village and a known spot for spectacular sunsets. From the square, go through the wrought iron gate of Le Petit Jardin and step into its pretty, west-facing garden with lavender, oleander, paved terrace and vine-draped trellis – a perfect space to enjoy a sundowner or simply to relax during the day.
Sablet is a picturesque Provençal village, set against the stunning backdrop of the craggy, dramatic Dentelles de Montmirail, nestling in the foothills of the Mount Ventoux and surrounded by beautiful terraced vineyards. It has quite rightly been described as a vibrant, welcoming, authentic village. One of the key events on its calendar is the Journées du Livre (Book Festival) which takes place early in July and attracts writers from all over France, but there are plenty of other local festivities and “high days” throughout the summer months. The village’s fountain square is named after the writer Yvan Audouard who wrote, “In Provence, the sun rises twice: once in the morning and then after siesta”
As a medieval village, Sablet retains its authenticity and quaintness. This does mean that access by car into the old quarter is limited due to the narrow streets, designed for horses and people rather than cars! Access to Le Petit Jardin is on foot via the Place des Barrys but you can drop off luggage by car if necessary, in front of the nearby, historic, covered archway, le Petit Portail, from where Le Petit Jardin is just a short walk. Free parking in the village is within a two-minute walk from the Le Petit Jardin. There is secure storage for bicycles - just ask!

Aanrader

Truly a great house with a great view and a great host! Situated on the ramparts of Sablet which will take you right back into the Medieval. Except this house fully caters for modern society with a good kitchen, good bathroom, two well-sized bedrooms and WiFi (primal urge no.1 for kids these days). The local pub, the boulangerie and the small grocery store will do the rest.

The perfect location to explore the Provence with its Mont Ventoux! Compliments for Shelley who made us feel very welcome during our stay!

Restaurants, food & wine

Le Petit Jardin is right in the heart of the old village and within easy strolling distance of all local amenities for daily living (café/bar, bakery, pharmacy, newsagents, florist, butchers, mini-supermarket, hairdressers, library and the Tourist Office where you can enjoy a degustation of local wines – Sablet has an abundance of wine producers!). The local shopkeepers are friendly and helpful. You will always receive a very warm welcome from Bruno at the local café where you can sit on the terrace with a coffee, a meal or a glass of wine and soak up daily village life. Sablet has a small market every Friday morning on the main square where you can buy a range of fresh produce: fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese, pasta and sauces. The village also has an excellent medical centre with doctors, dentists and pharmacy. Vaison-la-Romaine is the nearest town, only a 10 minute drive away and where there is a wealth of Roman ruins to explore, restaurants to suit all tastes, characterful café terraces and a vibrant boutique culture. It also boasts one of the biggest Provencal weekly markets in the region - a wonderful journey for the senses.

Activities

This is an area renowned for hiking, cycling, fishing, tennis (there is a small club in the village) and a little further afield, rock climbing and kayaking. Within an easy drive, you have the beaches, towns and coastline of the Mediterranean, the fabulous flora and fauna of the Camargue (just one of 6 regional natural parks of Provence), the Ardèche Gorges and so much more...The 2024 OLYMPIC TORCH ROUTE IS CLOSE BY. For avid followers of the Tour de France, the iconic Mont Ventoux is within easy access. For city-lovers, we have Orange with its unique and splendid Roman amphitheatre which is still used as a major venue for cultural events and concerts; Avignon, with its magnificent Popes’ Palace and famous bridge; Aix, with its dramatic Mont St Victoire backdrop, stunning light and cherished links to famous artists like Cézanne and Vasarely; Arles, with its Van Gogh trail and the Rhone river; Les Baux de Provence with its spectacular Carrières de Lumières show and art galleries… And, of course, in the summer months the wonderful lavender fields of Provence are also within easy reach - not to be missed!
