The house
Welcome to Moulin Fouché, a beautiful holiday location in the town of Arnay-le-Duc, at the southern end of the Côte d'Or department in the Bourgogne Franche-Comté region. Our gîte 'Le Pigeonnier' is laid out as follows:
Main accommodation:
- Private entrance, living kitchen, table with six chairs, electric stove, bathroom, bedroom 1 with one double bed, wardrobes and a safe.
- The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob, fridge, kettle and coffee machines (filter and Senseo).
- The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washbasin with cabinet.
- Sufficient bed, bath and kitchen linen is provided.
- The walls of the living kitchen in the main house are covered with beautiful nature posters.
- Wifi is available in every room.
Side accommodation:
- Separate entrance, cosy sitting area on the ground floor, television with DVD player, electric heater, stairs to first floor, four stacked beds in the pigeon tower.
- The pigeon tower has a separate entrance. From the sitting area, stairs lead to the sleeping area with four stacked beds.
- If you let your children sleep in the pigeon tower, they can use the bathroom in the main house next door, where you will probably sleep yourself. This is a fun, but sometimes exciting adventure. Therefore, we do not recommend choosing Le Pigeonnier if one or more of your children are under six. But of course you are the best judge of that!
Terraces and garden:
- At the front of the main residence of 'Le Pigeonnier' is your partially covered private terrace, with a large table, garden chairs with cushions and, of course, a barbecue.
- From your terrace you overlook the beautiful garden. There you can enjoy the peace and quiet, each other and the good life.
- And if you walk up the stairs next to the cottage, you are directly at the lake, where you can take a refreshing dip.
- The terraces and the adjacent garden, although sheltered, are not fenced. At the front of the plot is a stream.

The holiday flats of Moulin Fouché are located in a lot with no through traffic. Because the gîtes are located at the bottom of the dyke, you only hear the sounds of walkers and swimmers. On the terraces and in our garden you are surrounded by greenery. If you walk up the path, you are directly at the lake. Yet all the town's facilities are a short distance away. The bakery and supermarket are even within walking distance.

In Arnay-le-Duc and the surrounding villages, you will find several good restaurants, simple eateries, nice cafés and cosy terraces. The best restaurant in the town is Chez Camille. Near the town of Beaune are most of the vineyards. You can do wine tastings at several places. The best wines in the world come from Burgundy and the Côte d'Or.

THE MORE
Moulin Fouché is located directly on the picturesque l'Etang Fouché. The lake was created when a dyke was built in the valley of the small river Arroux around 1750. A water mill (grain mill) named Moulin Fouché was built on the dyke. The municipality of Arnay-le-Duc turned the lake into a beautiful recreational lake with a small beach.
Swimming is allowed in a large part of the lake. Floats in the water indicate the different areas: a children's play area, a swimming area and a non-swimming area. When there is a green flag in July and August, there is lifeguard supervision. At the beach, there are two free water slides and a children's playground. On part of the lake, you are allowed to go supping, pedal boats and sail small boats.
On the sandy beach at this (reservoir) lake, children can play for hours, go crazy, bury each other under the sand and build endless castles. Adults can relax in the sun while enjoying a snack and a drink, read an exciting or unexciting book and supervise their children at play. There are some pedal boats and supplanks for rent. Next to the beach are several picnic benches and around the lake are several nice grassy areas.
A gently sloping two-kilometre hiking, cycling and fitness trail runs around the lake. It takes half an hour to go around, passing three small bridges and all kinds of exercise equipment on the way. It is a beautiful, quiet and relaxing walk. There are 90 kilometres of hiking, cycling and mountain biking routes in the area.
There is a lovely Huttopia campsite by the lake, where fun activities are organised and (electric) bikes can be hired. The campsite restaurant allows everyone to eat. Because Moulin Fouché is built against the embankment - and is therefore more or less below water level - the sounds of campers and people in the water and on the beach often pass over you. This allows you to enjoy your well-earned peace and quiet and nature from your cottage.
If you like fishing, l'Etang Fouché is a good place for your hobby. The lake is an official fishing location. You can fish for carp, tench, pike, zander and trout. A fishing licence can be bought at the nearby campsite.
ARNAY-LE-DUC
Moulin Fouché is located on the outskirts of the historic town of Arnay-le-Duc. Its population as of 1 January 2023 was 1,384. They are called Arnétois. The area of Arnay-le-Duc is about 12 km².
The place has a regional function and boasts several amenities. Among others, there are three supermarkets (Aldi, Carefour and Bi1), two bakeries, two drugstores, a hardware store, a garden centre, some nice shops, cosy terraces and restaurants in various price ranges. The Carefour and one of the bakeries are within walking distance (8 minutes).
The best, most beautiful and also most expensive restaurant in town is Chez Camille, but you can also eat well at Le Dauphiné, Le Château d'Arnay and Café du Nord. There are several other nice restaurants in the region.
The charging point for electric cars is within walking distance (10 minutes) of Moulin Fouché. There are two charging stations and you can pay with a normal debit card. If you would like to know more about charging your electric car, feel free to contact us.
In July and August, the Nocturnes Estivales festival takes place on Thursday evenings. The shops are open, there are stalls with nice items, live music and plenty of food and drinks.
THE REGION
The Côte d'Or department and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region have a lot to offer! The landscape is rolling, forming a patchwork of cereal fields, meadows, vineyards and forests. In spring, rapeseed blooms in the fields and in summer you see sunflowers everywhere. There are many places worth seeing nearby. Dijon, Beaune, Autun and Saulieu have not only nice shops and cosy terraces, but also interesting museums. One of the most beautiful villages in France - Châteauneuf-en-Auxois - is a stone's throw from Arnay-le-Duc. In Burgundy, you can visit dozens of imposing castles. You will also find interesting museums, beautiful abbeys, ancient churches and grand cathedrals. The world's best wines come from Burgundy and the Côte d'Or. After half an hour's drive you are in the middle of the wine region.
