The house
La Chouette is an original farmhouse built in 1802 whose authentic elements have been preserved as much as possible. The thick walls keep it nice and cool inside. The dining kitchen with its original fireplace and wood-burning cooker has all modern conveniences. The sitting room has sofas and a wood-burning stove and overlooks the garden and green surroundings. (if you scroll through the photo album you will see, to get a good overview, panoramic photos of kitchen and room) In the gite are (library) books, games, audio, wireless internet and TV (with Google-Chromecast) On the floor are 2 bedrooms, 1 with toilet, while both are equipped with a sink. There is a separate shower/toilet room. There is an attic with 2 extra beds. In the former pigsty are the freely available women's, men's and children's bicycles, 3 canoes and a suppboard and any bikes you bring yourself can be safely stored.
In case you do not have your own transport, a good alternative could be the "Flixbus" that takes you from the Netherlands to Langres where we can pick you up for a fee. From Baulay there is a bus to Vesoul, where there are many bus and train connections.

La Chouette is, seen from the bridge over the river Saône, the first/last house of the village of Baulay (approx. 300 inhabitants). The holiday house has parking space for several cars and a large garden (800 mtr2) with panoramic views and which is equipped with 4 terraces with garden chairs and tables (choice between sun and shade). There are also picnic tables, parasols and a barbecue. For the children, there is a rocking lion and other play equipment. The child- and animal-friendly garden is enclosed by shrubs and fencing, so safe for your children and dogs who cannot get out. Right opposite La Chouette is the old washing place and drinking place for cattle, which was used until 1965. The river Saône flows at 200 metres from the gite. In the village Baulay is a boulangerie / epicerie and next to it the village pub with a simple terrace.
The nearest village with a small supermarket, doctor and pharmacy is 4 km away. At only 10 minutes by car is the larger town of Jussey with banks, post office, tourist information office and no less than 3 supermarkets of the major chains. There is a lively weekly market here every Tuesday morning.
The surrounding area offers plenty of nature with clean air, rolling fields with rapeseed in spring (the yellow colour in bloom is overwhelming) and sunflowers, corn and grain in summer, grazing cattle, forests and vistas. The river Saône, navigated by pleasure yachts, traverses the landscape. The often picturesque villages in this region have a friendly population, in short, one still feels welcome here.
The Haute-Saône has a continental climate: pleasant springs and autumns, warm summers.

Bedankt voor een gezellig en goed verblijf in La Chouette. Wij waardeerden de rust en de mooie omgeving. Onze oudste zoon kon aan het klokgelui niet echt wennen maar voor ons had het z`n charme
Wij vonden de citadel van Besancon (mooie stad) zeer de moeite waard. Onze jongens konden de dierentuin daar erg waarderen. Restaurant La Barnayout (unnel de st Alblin - Scey sur Saône) vonden wij tegenvallen al hebben ze wel lekker ijs. De markten zijn leuk om te bezoeken. Fijn dat er fietsen, kano`s en een supboard zijn om te gebruiken. Wij zijn ook allèèn maar aardige mensen hier tegengekomen bij dde bakker, in ded bus en in andere winkels. De dorpjes zijn echt leuk, kortom, het was een aangenaam verblijf in gite La Chouette in Baulay.van der Beek from gemeente Westland,
Super leuk om in dit vakantiehuis te verblijven. Prachtige omgeving en mooie dingen om te zien. Veel plezier bij de rivier gehad met vissen en de kano`s en de sup viel ook in de smaak. Bezoek aan ded grotten van Oselle was leuk en de tip van de pizzaboer op maandag in Baulay was top! Heel lekker.
Het was een hele fijne vakantie ondanks een paar regenbuitjes in onze week. Maaike, Steve, Tess en RoyJan en Karen from vleuten,
uit gastenboek; Beste Janny en Rob, hartelijk dank voor jullie gastvrijheid, warme welkom en uitgebreide aperitivo. We hebben genoten van ded praschtige omgeving, heerlijke tuin en jullie tips. Restaurants, food & wine
From La Chouette you can easily walk across the bridge to the village of Fouchecourt (1 km) where there is a small marina. There are several restaurants in Jussey (12 km), In Faverney (10 km) Port sur Saone (12 km) and Vesoul (25 km). The regional specialities are the cancoillotte but also the other cheeses, which are made in the fromagerie in Aboncourt (3 km), and the Griottines (cherries on eau-de vie) from Fougerolles.
Activities
Swimming, fishing, canoeing or supping, in short, enjoy the Saône while the rural surroundings invite you to go on long walks and bicycle rides. In Port sur Saone (12 km) and near Vesoul (25 km) is Ludolac, a swimming paradise for young and old. Take day trips to e.g. Belfort and Becancon, characteristic of Franche-Comté. Visit the oldest glassworks in France in La Rochère de Passavant, the castles of Rupt-sur-Saône and Ray-sur-Saône in the Saône Valley. While travelling, discover the Miles Etangs Regional Nature Park, a surprising plateau with many fens, the Ballon d'Alsace and other highlights of the Vosges, as well as the spa resorts of Luxeuil-les-Bains, among others. Impressive is Bartholdi's lion and Vauban's citadel in Belfort, Le Corbusier's remarkable Notre-Dame-du-Haut Chapel in Ronchamp. The Peugeot factory museum in Sochaux is well worth a visit. On all Sundays in season, there is always a brocante or other market in one of the nearby villages.

Further remarks
The rental price of the holiday home includes use of gas, water, electricity and firewood. La Chouette is available from 16:00 on the day of arrival and should be vacated from 10:00 on the day of departure. Duvets and pillows are provided. You must provide your own hand and tea towels, (fitted) sheets and pillowcases. Several sports, VTT and children's bikes as well as 3 canoes, a supboard and simplev fishing equipment are available. Dogs are welcome but no more than 2 at a time. The travel distance from Utrecht to La Chouette is approximately 630 km.
With your reservation request, you will receive from us the general conditions related to the rental of the gîte and a payment summary. To make a reservation we ask for your address details and (preferably) your mobile phone number. From Baulay there is a bus connection to Vesoul from where buses and trains depart to various destinations.
Good bicycles with panniers are available for you to do your shopping within reasonable distance: 4 km (Amance), 10 km (Faverney) and 12 km (Jussey / Port sur Saône).

For La Chouette, for rental season 2024, our changeover days are flexible but the stay must be a minimum of 7 consecutive days,
It is possible to extend the stay by 1 or more days before or after a 7-day period.
From 15 June to 6 July (early season) and from 31 August to 30 September (late season), our weekly rate is € 645
During the high season from 6 July to 31 August, the weekly rate is €720.
Discounts: early booking or last minute discount If your booking is made at least 180 days before or within 30 days of the start date, we give a 5% discount on the rental amount. We also give a discount of 5% from the 3rd consecutive week provided that no early booking or last-minute discount was granted on the booking.
For accompanying pets (maximum 2) we charge € 25.00 per animal per week. If you do not have your own transport and arrive or depart in Langres by Flixbus, we can transport you to or from the terminal for a fee. The same applies if you arrive/depart in Vesoul by train. (maximum 4 people)
