The house
Once, hundreds of pigeons flew in "La Tourterelle", a pigeonnier from 1800. A number of small windows and the pigeon niche in the bedroom still remind of this.
Now it is a charming and cosy holiday home with 3 floors.
A covered terrace has been built next to the holiday home.
The little tower - as we always call it - is located a bit high and from the living room and from the balcony you have a panoramic view over sloping valleys and forests.
The entrance on the ground floor has two entrances and a toilet.
On the ground floor is also a bedroom with "walk-in bathroom".
From your bed you can step out onto the mini-terrace with maxi-view to enjoy breakfast and the rising sun.
On the first floor is the living room. The atmosphere is experienced as "chaleureux" by the French. Hospitable and warm we would say. There is an open kitchen in "country life style" and a dining and sitting area.
In the attic, where a masterly oak construction supports the gabled roof, is the other bedroom with 2x single beds. Most suitable for children because of the headroom.
Besides the already mentioned mini terrace, the other side has a spacious fenced garden where on hot days it is lovely to sit under the exuberant apple tree.
In connection with the steep stairs to the attic, La Tourterelle is less suitable for very young children.
In and around la Tourterelle you can use wireless internet. There is Dutch television and a DVD-player with feature films.

"La Tourterelle" is located in the midst of rolling fields, meadows fringed by hedges and on the edge of undiscovered hiking forests.
It is pleasantly quiet here. Sometimes the silence is interrupted by a farmer on his tractor or the neighbour who has just fetched a load of wood from the forest.
From "la Tourterelle" you can make beautiful walks or cycling tours. But also by car you can easily reach a nice city, a small village, a lake or the beautiful Parc regional le Morvan with its high hills and rivers.
In the past, "la Tourterelle" was part of a hameau - a hamlet outside the village of Cizely with stables, outbuildings, small houses and a farmhouse.
That farmhouse is "La Seganjotte", our other holiday home.
The buildings that still exist are free from each other. Each house/building has its own entrance, its own garden and terraces. Because of this and the exuberant greenery all around, there is a lot of privacy.
Ideal environment for peace and quiet, bird watchers, dog owners, nature and culture lovers.

Het is vrijdagavond, onze laatste avond in la Seganjotte. Wat een heerlijke week hebben wij gehad. Rust, stilte, natuur is wat deze geweldige plek geeft om even uit de dagelijkse bezigheden te stappen. Met een warm ontvangst door Brenda en Jaap voelde wij ons meteen thuis en komen we zeker weer terug. Namens onze beide honden dank voor het mogen genieten van jullie huis.

Fijn huis, zeer fijne, goed omheinde tuin (waar zelfs aanpassingen voor ons zijn gemaakt), stilte, rust. En super aardige eigenaren die alleen al door ons zo goed te helpen bij de pech die we hadden, een dikke 10 verdienen.

Wat een heerlijke plek om helemaal tot rust te komen! Wij hebben vooral niks gedaan. In het zonnetje zitten met een boek, een wijntje en een geitenkaasje. Luisteren naar de koeien en de roep van de buizerds. Volgende keer gaan we in het voorjaar, kijken hoe het dan eruit ziet. En wat meer van de omgeving bekijken, hoewel onze hond al een aantal meertjes uitgeprobeerd heeft! Nevers, op een half uurtje rijden heeft een gezellige markt en een heerlijke Italiaan.

Restaurants, food & wine
North of Nevers are the towns of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire. They are the "capitals" of two wine regions that produce the renowned Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. A day trip to the wine estates around Beaune should not be missed. A visit to one of these domains is a real experience and tasting is buying.
Burgundy is, of course, Burgundy food, which you can enjoy in the many hospitable restaurants. In the gite you will find brochures with addresses and recommendations in the guestbook.
Activities
In the vicinity are many lakes, canals and rivers where you can canoe, fish, paddle and swim. For the latter, you can also go to Saint Benin d'Azy (6km) where there is an excellent (small) swimming pool. There is also a tennis court and a riding school.
In the direct surroundings you can make beautiful walking- and cycling-tours where you can choose from hilly routes or flat trips along the Canal du Nivernais.
The surrounding villages, towns and cities (Nevers, Autun, Bourges, Vezelay, Moulins) offer a range of cultural and historical activities.
Of course you can also do "nothing" and just sit in the garden or on the couch and enjoy a good glass of wine, that one book, the children playing, the view......

Further remarks
Dogs are welcome in la Tourterelle. There is an enclosed garden. We also provide tracking lessons. In the May holiday you can follow the dog photography workshop.

The prices below include gas, water, electricity, final cleaning, firewood and wifi*.
*Wifi is suitable for surfing the internet and streaming some films. For continuous streaming of films, radio and TV programmes and gaming the wifi is not sufficient.
