Our house is situated in the charming country village of Barnay, surrounded by the rolling hills of the "Parc régional du Morvan", where the famous white Charolais cows graze. The name of our house "Le Grand Pic" is due to the great spotted woodpecker. From our house you can walk straight into the varied nature, where you can walk and cycle. In the village is a snail farm where you can get a tour and can buy culinary products.

Le grand pic is zo n huis. Warm, comfortabel, rustig en mooi. Een fijne eetkeuken en heerlijk zwembad. Perfect? Nee, dat niet. Volgend jaar nemen we onze eigen kussens mee.

    Comment from Marlies Koops

Kortom, volgend jaar staat alweer gepland!

Restaurants, food & wine

Saulieu, famous for its restaurants.
Beaune of course, known as the wine capital of the Côte d'Or.
Also in Autun, there are many good restaurants.

Activities

In the Morvan, there are various recreational possibilities, such as: swimming, sailing, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing etc. For those who prefer city and culture, there is also plenty of choice in the area. At 15 km. lies the "Gallic-Roman" city of Autun where various remains from the Roman times can be seen, among which the Augustodonum: an amphitheatre of 70 AD, the temple of Janus and remains of old city walls and gates. There is also the beautiful cathedral of Saint-Lazare, the construction of which began in the 12th century. In the centre of Autun, there is a cosy square surrounded by terraces and a beautiful city hall and theatre. On Wednesdays and Fridays, there is a market here and a fresh food market under the town hall. On the outskirts of the city is a 12-hole golf course. At 14 km. lies the cosy town Arnay le Duc, where every Thursday night in summer various festivities are organised. The gastronomic Saulieu, 20 km., is also recommended. A little further away, 60 km, but certainly worth visiting, is the capital of Burgundy, Dijon, with a beautiful old centre. A half hour drive from Barnay is the wine city par excellence: Beaune, with its beautiful shops, squares and restaurants, and certainly a "must" is the Hospices de Beaune (former hospital from 1880). Just the route to Beaune is beautiful through the villages and vineyards where you will be invited to taste the famous Burgundian wines. A nice outing for the Sunday is the weekly market in Chagny with many local products. In the village of Barnay there is a snail farm. The owner will be happy to give you a tour.
