The water mill dates from 1640 and was built on the foundations of a Roman temple. It is set on the borders of the River La Bourbince next to the Canal du Centre. It is rural, but not 'in the middle of nowhere' here. The property is 1 hectare and is divided by the river, which has 4 water falls, and is suitable to splash around in, even by small children (supervised). In the 'trou du Moulin' you can ecen swim. With an inflatable boat it is possible to paddle on the river in either direction, and fishing is also possible. We've got bikes to cycle alongside the river or on the 'voie verte'. On walking distance there is a 'plan d'eau', an artificial lake with swimming possibilities. On request we can organise an adverture hunt or fossil hunt, interesting for all ages. The walled front garden has a carousel, a rocking cow, a playhouse made of an old wine vessel and swings. In the evenings you can make a camp fire (ample wood around). In town on 2 km there are 2 shops. Forget the food you're used to - there are plenty of other things to eat!
Make a day trip to one of the old towns including Chalon-sur Saône, Cluny, Autun, Macon and Beaune with its world famous hospice. Burgundy is famous for its wine and delicious quisine. We can recommend many reasonably priced and slightly more expensice restaurants. Don't miss the Mont Saint Vincent, the highest point of the region with an orientation table. On a clear day you can even see the Mont Blanc and the Puy de Dôme. If you look us up on google-maps, you will see a white V in the river. On one side is the house, and the property on the other side: this can be your next holiday destination! Prices depend on the number of guests.

Eind augustus 2023 met onze dochter en haar drie kinderen een prachtweek doorgebracht ! Door Simon en Liesbeth als goede vrienden onthaald en verwend. De kinderen wisten niet wat eerst doen : alle verrassende hoekjes van het domein ontdekken, gaan zwemmen in het eigen zwembad, gaan vissen in de rivier of toch maar meegaan met de grote mensen om de prachtige streek te ontdekken. Een heerlijke week !

Wat een fijne plek is de Watermolen in Palinges.
Wanneer je daar zoals wij een week vertoeft, ben je er echt even 'uit'...
De gastvrijheid van Simon en Liesbeth, hun tips voor uitstapjes, en niet te vergeten, het het haardvuur
om 's avonds gezellig bij te zitten, hebben we enorm gewaardeerd.
Ook onze kleinkinderen hebben enorm genoten van het buiten spelen, de rivier, de lieve honden en zoveel meer....

We hebben een heerlijke tijd gehad in de molen. Het huis was van alle gemakken voorzien en perfect voor ons. We hebben elke nacht heerlijk geslapen. Onze jonge hond heeft de hele week heerlijk enthousiast gespeeld in de omheinde tuin en als wij een dagje weg wilden zonder hond, pasten Liesbeth en Simon graag op. Het verwarmde zwembad en de ruime, zonnige tuin waren heerlijk. Zeker met het mooie nazomerweer dat we hadden! Maar in de regen (het was toch september) was het binnen ook prima vertoeven.
De directe omgeving is erg rustig, voor tripjes stap je altijd in de auto. Niet dat dat een straf is, want rijden door de Bourgondische heuvels is een uitje op zich! De stadjes Cluny, Paray-le-monial en Chalon vonden we erg leuk. Je kunt overal heerlijk eten voor weinig geld (zeker tussen de middag). Verder zijn de vele kastelen in de buurt een aanrader (vooral het kasteel in Palinges zelf en het dorpje/kasteel Briancon vonden we erg mooi). Dank Liesbeth en Simon voor de gastvrijheid!
Restaurants, food & wine
Burgundy is a paradise for wine lovers. There are many wine houses you can visit, from Beaune to beyond Macon. To name a few: Pommard, Meursault, Clos Vougeot, Saint Vérand, Chablis, Pouilly Fuissé and Saint Amour. There are several wine routes near Beaune, near Givry and alongside the Côte Chalonnaise, Macon and Beaujolais. But for food lovers Burgundy has a lot to offer. The food is honest and delicious. Escargots, oeufs en meurette (eggs in red wine sauce), chicken in cream from the Bresse, boeuf bourguignon made of beef from the white Charollais cow and so on. We know many very affordable restaurants and those with Michelin stars.
Activities
Go swimming in the river next to the house or in the 'plan d'eau' on 5 minutes walk. Take a walk or a bike ride directly from the gite (bikes at your disposal). For golf and horse riding you need to take the car. People who are intereste in the Roman history can visit Bibracte and Autun. The Roche Solutré is also a great archeological site. There are caves in Azé and Blanot. For children there is Divertiparc, where you will find all sorts of outdoor activities. Somewhat further is Bibracte, the museum of Celtic civilization.

Additional price info and offers
In case of a last-minute offer there is a reduction of 100 euros. In the gite you will find a bottle of wine to toast to a good holiday! For final cleaning we charge 50 euros. The Dutch school holidays are our high season, June and September and the week around bank holidays we charge half-season prices. In winter there we have to charge € 50 euro for heating. The rates in low and mid season apply for 5 people. For more than 5 people, there is an extra charge of € 50 per person. In case of more than eight people we ask for your compliance, for there are only 4 real bedrooms. But together we will find the solution.
