The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some traffic

Family house on pretty private grounds of 4000 m2, in the rolling hinterland of Boulogne sur Mer, Europe's largest fishing port. Beautiful area with terraces and woods, marked cycling routes, and of course the sea. Choice of chalk cliffs overlooking England, or wide sandy beaches with surfing, beach sailing and other beach fun.
The house is spacious with a living kitchen with fireplace, a lounge with wood burner, a spacious terrace, partly covered with fixed BBQ and views of the surroundings. In front of the house a spacious gravel terrace with table tennis, petanque, outdoor table football, fire pit and sitting areas under or by the weeping willow. In the house table football and billiards, in the barn a Russian billiard table. Recreation on and around the property, 20 km from the sea. Features: freedom, relax, sea, French rural life, Boulogne, terrace.

The house has two floors with seven double rooms. On the first floor two showers/toilets, on the second a spacious bathroom. Above the dining room a separate double bedroom with bath. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped, with a fireplace, resulting in cooking turning into the communal meal and after-dinner dining. For those not participating, there is a separate billiard room with table football as well. Watching TV or reading can be done in the lounge, with a wood-burning fireplace for cosiness. Free WIFI is available. A few hours' drive from the Netherlands, so bring bikes.

The coast is particularly beautiful, north of Boulogne rough chalk cliffs and panoramas, but also with accessible seaside resorts such as Wimmereux. South of Boulogne very wide sandy beaches, easily accessible, with seaside resorts like Hardelot-plage and Le Touquet. Don't forget the beautiful surroundings, lovely little rivers running through the countryside and quaint fortified towns.

The hinterland of Boulogne sur Mer is a scenic landscape. Winding roads with hedges, winding over the hills. Beautiful views. Our house is within walking distance outside a village containing a bakery cum café. There is also a fishpond. In Desvres at 10 kilometres are all amenities. Nearby forests and the sea (half an hour's drive, easy parking). Cities such as Arras, Lille and Amiens (famous cathedral) as day trips. Boulogne sur Mer is nice with a walled old town with restaurants, shops and terraces, and a monumental old church. Lower town has shops, markets and the ports.

The house itself is on a higher point next to a farm . Nice views, and enjoy the evening sun on the terrace. The grounds are mostly fenced, grassy, and gently sloping, with lovely views of the surrounding slopes.

Aanrader.

Restaurants, food & wine

Our house is interesting from a culinary point of view, because it has a well-equipped kitchen, ready for all regional products. Boulogne offers all kinds of fish, it doesn't get any fresher than that. There are also many restaurants, up to a Michelin. But also closer to home. It is an agricultural area by the sea, with many cheese products. Nearby, there is a cider brewer from ecological apples; he also makes various spirits. Bread baked on charcoal in the next village, in another hamlet you can buy fresh escargots, in short ..., discover the local products, a fun holiday activity. And then prepare them in the house, then eat them on the terrace, in front or behind the house, depending on sun and wind.
In Desvres and Boulogne there are weekly markets, and in the neighbourhood antique markets. In Boulogne, at the port, there are dozens of stalls with fish, which are supplied at 7 o'clock in the morning, you can pick your own fish.

Activities

Our village lies on a marked cycle route through mountain and valley, you can fish in the village. There are four golf courses within a radius of 20 kilometres. By the sea you can (learn) beach sailing, sunbathe and play, or have lunch in a fish restaurant. Or watch England over the Channel, enjoy a local brewery or other regional products. There is a random rail nearby for the children (pedal by yourself), and in St.Omer there are boat trips. There are several war museums, and fortified towns that bear witness to a further war past. Boulogne has Nausicaa (an ecological sea museum), and a large indoor swimming pool.
Near Desvres and Boulogne are forested nature reserves. Hiking trips start from our house.
