The house

  • Completely quiet natural area

This three-bedroom stone farmhouse, with an additional annexe available to make 4 bedrooms, is tucked away on a small hillside in the hamlet of La Colle in the heart of Provence. There are only three properties in La Colle so that guests can relax in a tranquil natural environment filled with birdsong and the buzz of bees. La Colle sits in its 30-hectare country estate and is surrounded in all directions by prairie, forest, lavender fields, olive plantations and scented shrubs. The 10x4.5 meter pool overlooks a panoramic mountain vista from its dominant vantage point. One of the bedrooms is two singles, one double, a six-bed is possible, and with the annexe (which is charged additionally) can make a max of eight.

We continually maintain the property, daily pool maintenance grounds etc.. No Work for you! We have a policy of do not disturb unless needed. You will hardly notice us as we respect your privacy.

La Colle was built a few hundred years ago and is an excellent example of a traditional Provençal farmhouse. The owner stays in Galileo where we maintain the property and pool, which is primarily for you except.
The spacious accommodation is well equipped for a family holiday. The entrance leads into the fully fitted country kitchen with exposed oak beams. Opening off the kitchen is the main living and dining area, a large and comfortable room with a voute, or vaulted ceiling. It was originally a stable at the turn of the century but has since been developed into a comfortable space for family activities and includes a flat-screen TV, and entertainment centre, with a library of movies. The property also has on-demand 4g wi-fi internet access.. The large fireplace at the end of the archway, more often used in winter, is the focal point of the room, filled with different seating and relaxation areas. A large bathroom also lies on the ground floor.
Upstairs are the three large bedrooms. One has a spacious queen bed, another has a pair of single beds, and the third has a large single brass bed. A sixth guest is possible via an easy to use electrical blow up single bed (extra person charged). The annexe is 10 metres away from the entrance and has equal access to the pool. It is a double bed plus an en-suite bathroom.

La Colle also offers photographic safaris and 10-day inclusive retreats.io holidays, mainly off high season. LONGTERM LETS We accept long term lets up to just short of one year. During this upheaval period of restrictions and mandates, we have had professional family guests that work online that have happily stay with us for 22 months. They loved the area so much that they have bought a local property!

As the property is accessed by a narrow country lane, it is not recommended that guests bring sports cars or caravans. A facility of a 4x4 is available for transit to the property see main european site for details.

In the summer of 2023 we had the privilege to spend a week in the beautiful mas of Rod. The house is set on a hilltop in the midst of woodlands with a fabulous view over the valley. The location is remote (just as we liked it) and only accessible via a rocky approx. 4 km long dirtroad that provides for a spectacular entrance. It was like going on a safari every day. As this was a bit to much for our own flat and tar accustomed car Rod provided a 4x4 that could handle the situation easily. The house is cool, large and has an impressive almost medieval looking living room where we spend long nights playing colonists of catan, cards, chatting and drinking. Although remote the nearest town Forcalquier is located just 25 minutes drive away and besides a number of interesting historical sites offers a number of largest markets we have ever seen in France. The city has a good ambiance and an abundance of good restaurants to enjoy long French lunches and diners. All in all the combination of the quiet hilltop house and small dynamic town nearby was exactly what we we looking for and tastes for more!

We had a lovely week with our two little ones at la Colle. The view is really beautiful, the weather was nice and warm and we made the best of the pool in the garden. It was a very peaceful holiday for everyone just enjoying the quiet. We went to the market in Forcalquier on Monday which is huge, the people there are really lovely.
The house was well equiped for both of our young children (3 and 2 months old).
Rod was very helpful when we needed anything and he knows lots about the area so it was very enjoyable to ask him a bit about it.

We were sad to leave after ou relaxing holiday. But all good things come to an end.

We have very much enjoyed our stay at La Colle en Provence. We stayed during the summer for two weeks with a family with 3 little boys (ages 3-11). The large appartment was nice and very clean. Everything needed was available. The swimming pool was fantastic with a great view of the surroundings. The whole family enjoyed this very much...The site contained a barbeque as welll as an outside fireplace to use for cooking. It was particularly great to use for roasting marshmellows under a starry sky.
We stayed during a very hot period and were able to find some cooling in the livingroom with its massive walls during the day. The sleeping rooms were cmfortable with a great view. The owner provided a 4 by 4 car to use for getting us from the parking space in the neighbouring village to the holiday appartment..This was very useful as it is a rocky ride to the final destination..The owner Rod and his son were available when needed. Rod is a kind host who knows much and was available for a chat if we wanted. He really made us feel comfortable.
We can really recommend staying here.

Restaurants, food & wine

The local produce is excellent, especially the lamb, which is raised organically on the prairies and pastures, the tomatoes, and of course, the vast selection of high quality cheeses and wines.
Forcalquier is the principal town serving the area. There are two supermarkets, and a host of small shops and businesses to tempt your tastebuds.
The main open market in Forcalquier is on Mondays. This is an event that should not be missed; visitors can explore the multitude of edible products on display, or just sit and relax in one of the three main cafés located on the market square.

Activities

Throughout the summer, almost every town has a festival, show, concert, special event or fête. In addition, there are many interesting architectural sites to see within a thirty-minute radius - including churches, monasteries, and the beautiful village of Lurs -a fully restored hilltop village full of artists. The beautiful countryside features some spectacular natural landmarks such as the Canyon of the Verdon river.
