The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

Domaine du Crestet is an old wine estate, located 35 kilometres east of the River Rhône and three kilometres south of the Roman town of Vaison la Romaine, famous for its amphitheatre and excavations.

It consists of four Provençal-style, nineteenth-century buildings around a central courtyard, recently renovated. The location is unique: in the middle of a green valley among vineyards with an unobstructed view in all directions, including the Mont Ventoux and the medieval village of Crestet. The village is within walking distance, as are the rocky beaches on the river Ouvèze. Seventy metres away is the restaurant La Loupiote, which offers excellent local menus at reasonable prices. 200m from the Domaine you will find the bakery (boulangerie artisanale) with fresh croissants every morning. The slightly more luxurious restaurant l'Epicurien is 900m away.

In three of the buildings are six stylish holiday homes (for 4-5 persons: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Olivier and for 8 persons: Murier and Viognier).

The Viognier house is housed in the "Maison de Maître" of the Domaine. This prestigious house has many special features and style elements from the Domaine's glory days. It has a habitable surface of 170m2 spread over 3 floors. On the ground floor there is a very spacious and luxurious kitchen/dining room, a living room with a beautiful fireplace, a cloakroom and a toilet. The stately Provencal staircase leads to the first floor with the large master bedroom and the large bathroom en-suite with an Italian shower and a separate toilet. On the third floor there are 3 spacious bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. In all bedrooms the beds can be prepared as double beds, 2 single beds or 1 single bed.
Outside on the south in front of the house there is a private courtyard of 85 m2 with a terrace cover of 27 m2, and a fenced private garden with grass, plants, fig tree and apricot tree, of 78 m2. Viognier also has a private garage for bicycles and parking next to the house. The house and garden have a view over the vineyard and behind them the Mont Ventoux. In the garage you can prepare your bikes for the Ventoux climb!

The domaine is less suitable for large groups. There is no central common room. A group can rent no more than 3 houses and cannot consist of more than 12 people.

Reviews

Domaine du Crestet Viognier has received 5 reviews over the past 4 years with an average of:

9.4 stars

Restaurants, food & wine

Crestet itself offers 3 restaurants, 2 of which are within walking distance and in a circle of 10 km around the domaine there are a dozen more excellent restaurants to be found. The artisanal baker is at 200m walking distance. The Provencal weekly market in Vaison offers a wide range of typical French delicacies including truffles, quails, mushrooms, foie gras, many cheeses and the best local fresh fruit and vegetables. In Vaison there are a number of culinary shops and a very large bio food shop. Richerenches (20 min) is the centre of the truffle trade.
In season, you can buy fruit and vegetables along the main road directly from local producers.

Domaine du Crestet is located in the heart of the southern Côte du Rhône with the top vineyards like Chateauneufdupape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Rasteau at ten minutes' distance.
The domaines are happy to welcome you for a tasting and we will give you a list of our personal local favourites.
In September, you can pick the grapes yourself in front of your own table. As long as the weather permits, which is almost every week from May to October, we organise a welcome drink for all guests on Saturdays at the edge of the vineyard.

Activities

Wine excursion, swimming pool, tennis, hiking, cycling:

A spacious swimming pool (12x7m plus 3x3m) with sun loungers in the grounds surrounded by lavender and vines, a boule court and playing field, and a tennis court within walking distance offer the necessary relaxation. In the immediate vicinity are extensive hiking and biking possibilities: Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux, valley of the Toulourenc. You can also walk directly from the Domaine into the vineyard or hike or bike the surrounding hills both on the road and on the many paths with your mountain bike.
You can also take part in a wine buying excursion on request (except July and August).
Our grapes go to Cave La Romaine in Vaison who produce, among other things, a delicious rosé AOC Côte du Ventoux. In September you can pick the grapes for your own table.
On the grounds there is a large parking lot and you will find the typical Provencal vegetation: lavender, olive and fig trees, rosemary, thyme, palm, bamboo, yucca etc.

In Vaison-la-Romaine, you will find a Roman amphitheatre with many performances during the summer. The Roman excavations are one of the most beautiful in France. There are many cosy shops and art galleries.
