The gite is surrounded by a mature terraced woodland garden, with many places to sit and enjoy the views. There are several water features, a Kiwi arbour, a private screened patio for guests’ exclusive use and a small wood opposite the house, colourful in Spring with a carpet of bulbs. New for 2021 is a spacious rose-garden terrace with wonderful views of the villages in the valley and beyond. Here you can enjoy the last of the evening sun, have an aperitif , a barbeque or just relax in the swinging chair .

Restaurants, food & wine

The town of Roanne has many good restaurants and excellent shops, supermarkets and boutiques. Equidistant, Vichy has many superb places to eat. ( We live here all year round, my husband was a chef.....I was a restaurant critic.....) we can tell you all the best places! Cote Roannaise is the local wine, with many vineyards to visit and taste the wine ; the famous vineyards of Burgundy, the Loire and Beaujolais are all not far away. All the local towns and villages have great food and produce markets to enjoy, with mouthwatering ingredients you will enjoy cooking in the well equipped kitchen of your gite.

Activities

The walking and horse-riding trails are clearly marked and numerous; many organised group walks include lunch/refreshments. .And of course our local lovely waterfall, La Pisserotte.......just down the valley and a very popular walk. Guests enjoy walking in the tree- top adventure park just minutes from the house, hot air ballooning over the extinct volcanoes, swimming in the mountain lakes.... and the night skies are truly awesome; with no light pollution, bright stars and planets are on view year round. Although the chateaux of La Loire are better known, we have more in our region of Allier and nearby , pretty mediaeval villages which are lived in by real people which makes them really come to life.

  • Near hiking trails
  • Near ATB trails
  • Near riding

Further remarks

This is a truly unspoilt, relatively unknown area well worth discovering. Interesting mediaeval villages, chateaux, Clunisian churches, abbeys and monuments abound. Long distance walks, local strolls, rural life, the pleasures you will enjoy here are simple but relaxing - a real holiday! In 2020, we celebrated 15 years of Geneste Petite Grange and in 2021, look forward to welcoming friends old and new. We've held our prices and - except for our new Bow Wow Box - everything is included, making Geneste Petite Grange exceptional value for money.
