The house
The romantic holiday home Le Paradis in the Orne has a very cosy living room with a monumental fireplace, decorated in an English style with antique furniture. The fireplace extends to the ridge, about 5 metres high. The sitting room has a DVD player, stereo system and a well-stocked bookcase.
The cosy kitchen with dishwasher has a dining table for 4, but most of the time you will eat outside at the teak furniture. Barbecue available.
There is also a bathroom with shower and toilet on the ground floor. There is also a second toilet. A staircase of 6 steps leads to the bedroom with a double bed, size 160 x 200 cm. A loft ladder leads to the second bedroom which also has a double bed. ( 150 x 190 cm)
There is central heating.
No pets, no children under 10 years.

Our half-timbered house Le Paradis is situated in a quiet valley with four other authentic half-timbered houses on spacious plots. These are also résidences secondaires. You have an unobstructed view of the valley, both in front and behind the house. The terrain, full of flowers and fruit trees, is about 2,500 m2 and lies at a dead end road. On the same terrain, about 30 metres from each other and separated by trees and bushes, is the guest house Le Colonel. The area is hilly.
The novelist Pierre-Alain Gasse has written novels about our house, its inhabitants and the valley.
We regularly hear from our guests that the Normans are so friendly and we wholeheartedly agree!
Lower Normandy is sparsely populated. Only 85 inhabitants per km2 compared to 491 inhabitants per km2 in the Netherlands.
The weather in Normandy is comparable to that in the Netherlands and Belgium, the temperature is a little higher and it rains less often. The winters are usually mild and pleasant.
The sun can shine quite enthusiastically in Normandy, especially in the summer months. On the hottest days of the year, the mercury will rise above thirty degrees Celsius. Fortunately, in most places in Normandy, the sea breeze tempers the temperature somewhat. The greatest chance of sunny weather in Normandy is in the months of June and July. On average, these months have eight hours of sunshine per day. In the months of May and August, this average is one hour lower.

Wij hebben genoten van Le Paradis, zoals zovelen voor ons. Prachtige ligging midden in de natuur. Het is er overdag en 's nachts echt heel stil. De gite is sfeervol en compleet ingericht.
De streek is heel mooi, veel kastelen en tuinen, leuke dorpen en interessante bezienswaardigheden. Natuurlijk genieten van het Franse leven en de aardige mensen. Echt een huis om vaker naar toe te gaan.Dorien Krosenbrink from Nijverdal,
We hebben een super tijd gehad in het huisje. Het huis is van alle comfort voorzien, goed geoutilleerde keuken en je kon er heerlijk in de tuin zitten: altijd wel een plekje uit de wind te vinden. Prachtig uitzicht aan de achterkant over de weilanden en elke dag kwamen de koeien rustigjes aan de wei in kuieren.
In de omgeving zijn veel mogelijkheden om te wandelen en te fietsen. Ook kun je mooie plekken bezoeken zoals Omaha Beach of Bayeux, maar dan heb je wel een auto nodig.

Het verblijf in Le Paradis was zoals de naam al zegt, paradijselijk. Het huis heerlijk, de tuin prachtig en de omgeving een lust voor het oog. De bedden waren zeer aangenaam, we hebben heerlijk geslapen. De koeien stonden elke ochtend in de wei naast het huis, leuker wakker worden kon niet! We hopen in het najaar weer terug te komen!
Restaurants, food & wine
Normandy is of course the land of Camembert (the village is 3 km away) and other delicious cheeses such as Livarot and Pont l'Evêque.
Apples are used in the most delicious apple pies and for the production of cider with light bubbles (very tasty with lunch, especially the pear cider) pommeau (a Normandy speciality: calvados mixed with apple juice) and calvados, the serious work. Nearby you can visit the cheese factory Graindorge. A few restaurants within driving distance are worth a mention in the Guide Michelin. Let yourself be pampered or cook and enjoy in the garden with bird sounds in the background at sunset.
Nature, culture and good food are the strong ingredients of this beautiful piece of France.
Activities
Les Champeaux in the Orne is an hour's drive from Suisse Normande, the more rugged part of Normandy and the beautiful wooded region of Le Perche. But also an hour's drive from the beach in Deauville/Trouville with its many fish restaurants and Cabourg, and the cosy harbour town of Honfleur. So as is often said : Entre terre et mer. Antique markets or flea markets are organised every weekend in the season.
Several gardens in the area are open; in autumn you can spot deer and other wildlife in our backyard.
Normandy, has a lot, in many areas: Rouen cathedral, the famous Bayeux tapestry, the beaches where the Allies landed during D-day, 6 June 1944.

Check out Haras du Pin, France's most famous horse-breeding farm.
A brisk walk or nice car trips on the country roads are among the possibilities. There are several mountain bike routes on narrow, steep forest paths.
There is a 33 km cider route by car, which almost passes our house. Both beautiful when the apple trees are in bloom and during the harvest in September/October.
Great golf on a new 9-hole course, with old trees, in the neighbourhood where there is still peace and quiet and you are not rushed by fellow players. Where else can you find that?
In Saint Pierre sur Dives, you can hire a canoe or kayak to paddle on the River Dives.
But also do nothing for a few days : Enjoy the silence, the beautiful starry sky, the rabbits hopping around, playful foxes and the beautiful nature where wild orchids are at ease and bloom abundantly.
Landscape psychologists agree that nowhere does a person recover faster from his busy existence, than in nature!
