The house

  • Completely quiet natural area

This lovely renovated barn has a light and airy feel. It is all on one floor and consists of a bright and spacious open-plan living area with vaulted ceilings and a fully-euipped. kitchen. The sitting area has a large door onto the vast garden with outdoor eating area and there is a woodburner for the cooler months. The interior preserves the original beams and stone walls and is tastefully decorated with the subtle use of colour and wooden floors, The large double bedroom has an ensuite shower room and a south-facing balcony overlooking the property, garden and woodland. It is lovely to sit out on the balcony or in the garden and enjoy a drink or a meal on sunny days, even in the winter months. The second twin bedroom has a larger bathroom with bath and shower. The mountains are in the distance and a short walk up the lane will give spectacular views of the Pyrenees.

Restaurants, food & wine

The charming town of Pau is a very easy drive (less than 10 minutes) and there is a wide choice of cafés and restaurants. You will love to stroll along the Boulevard des Pyrenees, with its full and expansive view of the mountains, where you can enjoy a relaxing drink at any time of day. The area around the famous chateau of Pau at one end of the Boulevard is home to many restaurants and there is something for everyone. The area of Jurançon itself is well-known for its excellent wine and you are within very easy reach of all the producers. The large local market of Jurançon on a Friday morning is an opportunity to try and buy a wonderful range of local produce including the Brebis cheeses.

Activities

There is a beautiful yoga studio on site, situated in a separate barn, which is available to guests by arrangement. We offer classes in meditation, yoga and relaxation on request and also offer personal retreats and healing for those who really want some time out. Local walking is beautiful and the property has 3 hectares of private gardens and woodland to explore and enjoy, with a clear water stream. Easy access by car to the mountains for walking, cycling (we are on the route for the Tour de France) and watersports. Downhill and cross-country skiing is available in the winter months (about 45 minutes' drive). Local sporting facilities are excellent with a recently-built olympic watersports stadium where you can do rafting, kayaking and canoeing in Pau (10 minutes), even if you have never tried it before! There is an excellent, also recently-completed, swimming complex in Pau with warm indoor pools, a well-being area with saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzis as well as a wonderful Olympic-sized outdoor pool which is in use all year round. There are two golf-courses in Pau as well as an Olympic climbing wall, fencing centre and many other sports opportunities. We also have a horse and two donkeys on site for you to enjoy.

Further remarks

The climate in and around Pau is known to be mild and when the sun is out, even in mid-winter, temperatures can allow you to fully enjoy the natural environment and even to sit on the balcony for lunch from time to time. Every season is beautiful as the trees and the mountains change colours. It is a truly magical area.
