The house
This typical stone-built Charente house dating form the 17th century has just been renovated using the highest quality natural materials.
The living space of 140 m² with a veranda is arranged over a ground floor and first floor, and offers real comfort with a personal touch, balancing the need for private individual spaces with areas for everyone to gather and socialise together.
The ground floor opens onto an open-plan kitchen-living-dining-room extending into the veranda when wanted, and also has a 'back-kitchen' and WC. A bedroom with bathroom, WC and dressing area form a private suite.
The first floor is a welcoming living room with a sofa-bed and leads into a bedroom, bathroom and shower room.
The up-to-date furnishings and the sophisticated charm of the décor create a warm yet airy ambience in a generous living space.

The gite "Le Relais du Colombier" is a free-standing house typical of the region, built of local stone and dating from the end of the 17th century. It just been fully renovated using high quality natural materials.
Along with the owners' house, originally belonging to the French explorer René Caillé, the gite enjoys a perfect location in the centre of its own 3.5 hectare fenced parkland, in the centre of the village.
There are plenty of varied walks and bicycle rides in the neighbourhood.
The village of 1 000 inhabitants is ideally situated close to the historic towns of La Rochelle, Saintes and Rochefort which offer some superb tourist sites to visit: a varied and rich heritage (Romanesque churches, ancient arenas, Knight Templar sites), the beautiful coastline with its archipelago of small islands, local products from sea and land (oysters, wines, Cognacs), a range of golf courses and musical events.

Wij genoten van een zeer aangenaam verblijf (ondanks de warmte). Viviane en Jean-Jacques hebben ons hartelijk ontvangen, alle vragen beantwoord en nuttige tips gegeven, en veel respect getoond voor onze privacy. Het domein is prachtig, het huis zeer comfortabel. Alles voor een rustig verblijf ie een landelijke omgeving.

It is a very nice house that is equipped with all comforts. We could only think of something and it was available. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable.
Once you enter the gate of the domain you experience a sea of peace and space, despite the fact that the domain is located in the center of the village. The bakery is easy to do on foot.
The welcome by the owners was very warm. Their friendliness and enthusiasm quickly put us at ease. They clearly took our privacy into account, but were always available..
Our son loved the golf cart ride through the domain.Finally, a quick word about the swimming pool. Fantastic.
The pool is completely fenced / closed and therefore safe for the children.
More than enough sun. Our two children (3 and 6 years old) had a great time. All the space for running/playing free.To Jean-Jacques and Viviane,
we had a very pleasant stay here.

Le relais du colombier est un gîte merveilleux. La maison est spacieuse, confortable et bien équipée. Les lits sont tres confortables. Tout est très propre. L’immense domaine offre de nombreuses possibilités pour se détendre et profiter de la nature où bien prendre un bain dans la piscine. Viviane et Jean-Jacques nous ont accueillis avec une grande gentillesse et en même temps beaucoup de discrétion. Merci encore pour ce séjour!

The regional specialities are of an unsurpassed quality and diversity: the biggest oyster bed area in France, wonderful seafood on the local markets including "bouchet" mussels, the Charente-Maritime wines as well as those from nearby Bordeaux, Pineau-Charentes and Cognac, salt from the Ile de Ré.
There is a good choice of restaurants not far from the gite offering a warm welcome, excellent quality and reasonable prices. Further afield, each town has a selection of places with classic or regional menus, and there are a few starred restaurants for real gastronomes.
Don't miss out on some of our typical local products like "cagouille" (escargot gris), "mojette" (white beans) and the famous Charentaise "galette" from Beurlay using butter and angelica, famous since 1848.
Activities
Visits to historic towns like La Rochelle, Saintes with its Gallo-Roman amphitheatre, Rochefort with the Royal Ropeworks and the replica of the frigate L'Hermione, Brouage with its fortifications built by Vauban, also very close to the Château de la Roche-Courbon with whom we share part of our history, and that of Panloy.
Take to the road to explore the Romanesque churches, the ferry bridge, the Crazannes quarries, a paleolithic site, Palmyre Zoo, La Rochelle aquarium or the Compostelle gardens at Trizay.
Also visit the islands of Ré, Oléron, Aix, Madame or Fort Boyard.
Sporting activities like golf, tennis, horse-riding, several leisure parks like Magné farm, without forgetting the multitude of beaches along the Côte de Beauté.
Oyster tasting and tours of the Marenne oyster-beds, the Cognac "caves" or a little further afield the wonderful village of St Emilion at the gates of Bordeaux.
Don't miss too the Casino at Fouras, the thermal baths at Rochefort, the thalassotherapy centre at Châtelaillon, river cruises or, very different, a little pond full of wildlife in the centre of the parkland of the gite.
