The house

  • Completely quiet natural area

Saint Moreil Gite is a detached and high quality gite in a rural setting. Situated in a stunning forested area with lakes and walks on your doorstep. A perfect location to come and relax by the heated pool in your own private garden. One of the advantages of staying at Saint Moreil Gite is we have our own Equestrian Facilities and quad bikes and these are available free of charge for guests staying with us and for those wanting to experience the area on horse back or four wheels.

The gite is 2 bedroomed detached cottage with everything you should need to make your stay an enjoyable one. All mod cons with flatscreen TV, high speed internet, wifi, kindle e-reader and netflix. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need.
The location is stunning and forested, walks and trails start from your doorstep. Plenty of stunning and historic towns including Saint Leonard de Noblat, Eyemoutiers and Bourganeuf all within 30 minutes.

The Gite has private garden, fenced and secure for young children and pets. There is also a larger garden with pond and chill area and a fire pit for the evenings.
Equestrian and Horse riding at Saint Moreil

One of the advantages of staying at Saint Moreil Gite is that guests can use our horses. We have two horses here at Saint Moreil, we are not an equestrian centre, but competent riders may be able to use the horses to take advantage of the superb riding in this area.
For the complete novice or younger children, you are more than welcome to come and have a go, it could be a lead around the village, a trek around the forests or just a morning brushing and helping with the horses. It’s all here and it is all very flexible. Extra horses and ponies are also available.
If you want to ride then please bring your own gear. We do have several riding hats and childrens size back protectors and hats.

Experienced Riders
We have two horses, we would ideally like one of us to ride with one guest. If two riders wish to ride together this may be possible but is at our discretion. These horses are part of our family and we hope people would treat them as they do their own horse. We have had incidents of the horses coming back cut, bruised and exhausted. We are happy hackers and if your idea of riding is similar to ours then we would see no problem with you going out alone. Jumping and speeding off with the horses is a firm NO. There is always the option for another horse and guide, this is a very reasonable extra cost of 70 Euros which is for the hire of the horse from the equestrian centre next door.

Novice riders and children
We work closely with our neighbours and equestrian centre and can hopefully accommodate every horsey need. Novice are welcome to come and try our horses, gain more experience. For those teenagers who may find ours a bit big, smaller horses are available although at a very reasonable cost of 70 Euros for the week (this is not for us but for the hire of the horse)
Children and complete beginners we now have the option to have your own horse or pony for the week. They can live in the stables in the garden and you can spend as much or as little time as you want with them. There is always someone to lead you around the forests or you can take the pony or horse yourself.
We really do think we can cater for all horsey needs to please contact us with any questions.

QUAD BIKE

Our quad bikes are fully road legal and insured for road and off road use, all you need is to hold a full driving license. The quads are a 300cc and 400cc. Both are automatic so very easy to use. The quad is free to use for guests staying with us, all we ask is you pay for your petrol. We have plenty of time for beginners and those who have never ridden a quad before, plenty of guidance on where to go and usually there will be someone happy to drive out with you.
Most of the marked paths in our area are classed as highways and it is legal to use vehicles on them. The paths range from wide and easy to tight and challenging, so there is ample for every taste and we can give you plenty of advice

You will need to sign a disclaimer to accept responsibility for the quad.
The quad is road legal and has a minimum third party insurance. You must be over 18 years of age and hold a full driving license to drive the quad. It is your responsibility and not ours to ensure that you meet the legal requirements to drive the quad. The quad is road legal and it is law in France to carry your driving license and vehicle documents at all times. Driving a quad on the road requires the same responsibility as driving a car. Please ensure you inform your holiday insurance that you will be doing this activity.
Most of the marked paths are classed as public highways and you are therefore allowed to drive vehicles on them. This means you have hundreds of miles of off road tracks to go on. Please be aware of “INTERDIT” and “PRIVE” which means prohibited and private.  We can offer you guidance on where to go.
Please be aware of others and respect the general public and animals. It is courtesy for motorised vehicles to give way on the paths and to stop and turn off your engine when if you meet horses or other animals.
We are more than happy to show you around the quad and give you some safety tips for safe driving. If you are unfamiliar with driving a quad bike, please let us know and we can try to help.
Quad biking is not about speed. It is having the ability to drive places that you cannot take normal vehicles. Go slow, enjoy the scenery.
The Quad has a back box so you can pack some drinks etc.
The quad has a universal Phone holder if you need it. It is well worth downloading a map to your phone and offline to use as a sat nav.
We do not hire the quad, it is free to use, but please let us know when you would like to use it. We are happy to accept voluntary donations towards the upkeep of the quad, tyres, servicing, oils and general maintenance.
