The house
Holiday home La Vendange is located in the municipality of Issigeac in the Dordogne department. The cottage, which formerly served as a farm, is built of traditional materials, with a white-painted wooden ceiling. The thick stone walls, plastered on the inside, ensure a pleasant indoor climate in the hot summer months. The modern kitchen goes well with the 1960s vintage furniture in the living area. In the bedroom, it is lovely to sleep in a four-poster bed with mosquito net. The cottage is located amid vineyards, fields and nature. We offer the cottage for rent for the 3 seasons, spring, summer and autumn. Spring is beautifully green. All the crops are beautifully green in the fields, nature is in full bloom, it is not too hot and you only hear the crickets and birds. The designated season for long walks in nature. Enjoy the local strawberries and asparagus! Summer is nice and warm and lazy with the advantage of being cool inside the cottage. There are always activities nearby. Visit one of the many markets (from vide grenier (flea market), marché gourmande, brocante to marché nocturne), picturesque villages, castles, concerts, festivals, parties and so much more. At night, on a clear day, you can enjoy a beautiful starry sky. Autumn brings a splendour of colours. This season usually still has good weather and you can experience the vendange (wine harvest) up close. This is the season of nuts, mushrooms, blackberries and truffles.

The cottage is located in the Périgord Pourpre, amid forests, fields and vineyards, 12km south of Bergerac, 6km from Monbazillac and 10km from the bastide of Issigeac. In the land of fine wine and gastronomy, of bastides, caves and castles, with varied and unforgettable landscapes. During clear nights, you can enjoy incredible starry skies.
If you want to go a bit further, Périgueux and Sarlat are 1 hour away and Bordeaux an hour and a half. It is also located 1.8km from the village centre of Bouniagues, which includes a grocery shop and bakery. It is very easily accessible by motorway from Belgium or the Netherlands.

Drie weken waren wij, Leo en Charlotte, in La Vendange. We hebben het echt heel fijn gehad. Het huis lag uitstekend. Heel rustig, tussen wijngaarden en weilanden. 's Avonds liepen er zomaar hertjes langs. Er zaten vaker twee uilen op het dak en we zagen eekhoorntjes en zelfs een haas. We konden van uit het huis wandelen via leuke landwegen.
Met de auto was je binnen een kwartier in Bergerac. Leuk stadje trouwens. Het Chateau Monbazillac was ook vlakbij. We hadden op de laatste drie dagen na, schitterend weer, wel 30 graden, maar binnen was het heerlijk koel. De oven, wasmachine, koelkast, fornuis, enz. , alles was van goede kwaliteit en we hebben dan ook heerlijk kunnen koken met producten die we op de markt of in de nabij gelegen winkels kochten. In het dorpje vlakbij was de bakker en de Proxy.
De contacten met de eigenaren Jan en zijn zus Carin waren heel soepel en vriendelijk.
De rust in en om het huis was weldadig. Kortom, we hebben genoten en kijken terug op een heerlijke vakantie. We hopen er zeker nog terug te komen!Leon & Carolien from Delft,
Wat een fijne gite op een formidabele plek! Het is er heerlijk rustig, het huisje is voorzien van alle gemakken. Eigenaars zijn zeer vriendelijk, en de afhandeling vd huur etc. verloopt heel soepel. In de omgeving is genoeg te doen. Zo kun je prachtige wandelingen maken, maar ook een bezoek aan Bergerac is de moeite waard.

Tijdens de hittegolf in Frankrijk hebben we een heerlijke week gehad in dit prachtige huis. Het huisje ligt midden tussen de velden waardoor het er heel rustig is en je het gevoel hebt ver weg te zijn van alles. Dat is in werkelijkheid niet zo, het dorpje met goede bakker ligt dichtbij en ook Bergerac en andere dorpjes als Monbazillac en Issigeac liggen in de buurt (tussen de 5 en 15 minuten rijden). Er is genoeg te doen en te zien in de omgeving waaronder de markt op zondag in Issigeac. Echt een aanrader, maar vergeet geen contant geld mee te nemen. Verder hebben we diverse wijnproeverijen gedaan waarbij die van Chateau Belingard er echt uit sprong. Heerlijke wijnen, veel informatie, mooi uitzicht en leuke rondleiding. Het huisje zelf is heel ruim, gezellig, comfortabel en echt alles is aanwezig. Zowel Jan als Carin hebben ons echt een welkom gevoel gegeven en hebben ons geholpen als we vragen hadden. We zouden het absoluut aanraden (wat we bij familie en vrienden al hebben gedaan) want na een week moesten we helaas vertrekken naar onze volgende bestemming en dat vonden we toch een beetje jammer!
Restaurants, food & wine
The spacious region is best known for its fois gras, magret de canard, truffles and its red wine. But walnuts, chestnuts and plums are also common. Monbazillac, in turn, is known for its noble-sweet white wine that owes its existence to the mist that the Dordogne regularly forms over those vineyards, creating the so-called 'pourriture noble'. In spring, strawberries and asparagus are ubiquitous.
Activities
Our holiday home in the Dordogne is wonderfully quiet amid nature and vineyards. We are in the middle of the Bergerac and Monbazillac wine region. The grapes from our vineyard are sent by our farmer to the Sigoules cooperative. Numerous events are organised in Bergerac during the summer months. Many craft workshops are open and various workshops are possible. There are castles, (Chateau de Biron, Chateau de Bridoire, Chateau de Monbazillac,...), bastides (Monpazier, Monflanquin, Villereal, Eymet), caves, wine estates (Chateau Les Verdots, Chateau Jaubertie, Chateau de Monbazillac,...) and gardens to visit. There is always a "brocante", antique market, (nocturne) market or vide grenier somewhere in the area where it is lovely to stroll around. So the market in Issigeac (Sunday), the market in Bergerac (on Wednesday and Saturday) or the market on the medieval square of Eymet and the brocante at the Chateau de Lanquais are definitely worth a visit. Nothing is more blissful than buying fresh vegetables, fruit and Foie Gras at the market in the morning and then recovering from this experience in the afternoon under our lime tree with a fresh Monbazillac.

Further remarks
Bergerac can be reached by plane from Rotterdam (Transavia) and Charleroi (Ryanair) in summer almost every day of the week. The adjoining house belongs to the owner and is sometimes used during holidays and weekends, but as this house has its garden on the other side, nobody bothers. Should it be used during your stay, you will be informed at the first contact.
