Luxury holiday home Porte Bonheur is located in the North East of the Dordogne, in the smoke of Excideuil and Hautefort and centrally located between famous places like Perigueux, Thiviers, Montignac and Terrasson.
UNESCO has put the area around the Dordogne and Vézère on the list of special regions. Because of the natural beauty, but also because of the cultural tradition and art de vivre.
The region differs per valley and per river. Beautiful green landscapes, magnificent hills, beautiful vistas of valleys, rivers, forests and historical places.
The Dordogne has the most castles, fortresses and bastides of France and many historical churches and sights.
It is quiet and clean, the inhabitants are friendly and the cuisine is famous.
The climate is very pleasant: little wind, much sun and not too dry.

We (gezin met 2 kleine kinderen + vriendin) hebben enorm genoten van onze week vakantie in het huis van Cees en Henriette. Je merkt dat overal veel zorg een aandacht aan besteed is. De indeling van het huis, meubilair, de tuin, netheid, materialen en comfort. Daardoor is het erg fijn verblijven. Om over de ligging en het uitzicht nog niet te spreken. Fantastisch! Cees en Henriette zijn ontzettend hartelijk, goed bereikbaar en willen je echt thuis laten voelen. Wij komen graag nog een keer terug.

Net terug van een heerlijk rustgevende reis in de Dordogne.
Wat hebben wij genoten van het prachtige huis van Cees en Henriëtte. Alles is aanwezig voor een zorgeloze ontspannende vakantie.. wij kregen ook veel leuke tips voor leuke uitstapjes en zelfs weetjes over het leven van de lokale bevolking. Wat een prachtig huis en gastenverblijf op een zeer rustige plek met voortreffelijk uitzicht ! Wat zegt men steeds : "Leven zoals God in Frankrijk"
Wel DAAR moet men zijn !!
Héél vriendelijke eigenaren (Cees & Henriëtte) die een uitgebreide rondleiding geven en waar men steeds alles mag aan vragen zonder geen enkel probleem ! Ze stellen u op uw gemak zodat men er zich echt "thuis" voelt.
Wat het huis en bijhuis betreft is er alles tip top in orde en voortreffelijk proper !
Alles is er aanwezig !
Geen "min" punten wat ons betreft !
Hebben er gelogeerd (opa & oma) in het bijhuis en de 2 kinderen elk met hun kindje.
Echt een aanrader en hopelijk zijn we er snel terug !
Restaurants, food & wine
From a culinary point of view, the Dordogne is a paradise, rich in delicious local products, including truffles, walnuts and "canard" in all its forms such as magret, confit and foie gras.
And not to forget the Bergerac wines, each with their own specific flavours and characteristics.
There is a rich palette of cheeses from the area, produced locally, especially the goat cheese is well known and delicious.
Nearby is the Route du Noix; many walnut trees along the road or in orchards provide the region with nuts and are the basis of the real Périgord walnut cake and walnut oil.
The truffles, the black gold, are found in this region and the "prunes d'Agen", plums from Agen, have an excellent taste.
Of course, you can find all these specialities at the producers' and daily markets.
In our kitchen you will find everything you need to prepare delicious meals, including local oils and a quantity of cookbooks.
But there are also plenty of delicious restaurants in the vicinity where you can eat.

Activities
In and around Preyssac d'Excideuil there is much to see and do.
There are plenty of opportunities for walking, golfing, fishing and canoeing and in the summer you can watch dog and horse races in Pompadour.
The Dordogne has more than 1000 castles, many of which you can visit, including the most prestigious castle Hautefort.
The cities Perigueux, Sarlat, Bergerac and Brantôme are worth visiting, as well as the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and the caves of the abbey of Brantome and Tourtoirac.
The diversity of the region is truly spectacular.
Many beautiful medieval villages and towns, wild rivers and breathtaking landscapes make the Perigord a true paradise for nature lovers!
