The house

  • Quiet, built-up area

At the edge of the picturesque village of Saint Auvent, you will find our (former) village school - beautifully situated - on 4000 m2 grounds. The detached school canteen on the grounds has been converted into a cosy, fully furnished gîte.
In the room you will find a sitting area with TV/DVD/Wifi and a fully equipped kitchenette with washing machine and dishwasher. The bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower, toilet, washbasin and hairdryer.
The first bedroom has two comfortable box spring beds (90-200 cm). In the 2nd bedroom a double bed of 140-200 cm.
The gîte is heated by a few electric radiators and an atmospheric and easy to operate wood-burning stove.
On your private terrace with garden chairs and sun beds, you have a wonderful view of the valley, where the river "the Gorette" gently ripples.
In the shared garden you will find the swimming pool.

The village of St Auvent is located in the Haute-Vienne (Limousin), a beautiful green hilly region. The many winding roads take you through sleepy villages and along the numerous lakes and rivers in the area. The forests are dominated by sweet chestnut trees and in the meadows, sheep and caramel-coloured cows graze peacefully.

Geeft waar nodig tips. Heerlijke table d'hote. Kortom een aanrader!

Restaurants, food & wine

In the summer months we cook 2-3 times a week for our guests. Outside this period possibly in consultation.
In July & August there is a farmers market every Thursday evening in one of the villages in the area. You sit outside at long tables - together with the French - to enjoy all the good things that the land produces here.
Furthermore, in the vicinity you will find a variety of restaurants - from pizza to gastronomy - for all tastes.

Activities

The Haute-Vienne has a lot to offer for a relaxing holiday. There are lovely villages in the area where you can go for your groceries, local markets or just to have a drink. You can browse through second-hand shops (brocantes) or visit Limoges, famous for its porcelain. You can visit the zoo, adventure parks for the kids or the impressive war memorial Oradour sur Glane. You can canoe on the Vienne and swim/relax at the recreational lakes in the area. Furthermore, the area is ideal for walking, cycling (note the hilly nature of the region!) or touring by car or motorbike. We have a wide selection of brochures, walks and maps, from which you can make a choice at your leisure.
