The house
Switch down a gear in this unique, peaceful accommodation. This beautiful old monastery from the XIXth century is located in the picturesque village of Viverols, in Auvergne. In it, we have developed a flat equipped with all modern comforts. Entering the apartment through the private entrance, you enter a spacious living room with modern new open kitchen. The kitchen has everything in terms of appliances and you have a beautiful view of the garden and the old castle of Viverols. The bedroom is spacious with a double bed and wardrobes, with an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom has two antique washbasins and a walk-in rain shower as well as a towel radiator. The toilet is separate.
It is a bright and spacious flat and has a lovely garden for relaxing. Viverols is located in the middle of the immense Parc Livradois nature park. The monastery has a large garden. The kitchen is new and has all the equipment for delicious cooking. Parking is available at the accommodation and is secure behind the gate.

Viverols is a village with an extensive history something that can still be seen in the remains of the old castle where guided tours are also given. It is a small village with lots of character and a friendly population. Everything is there, the local boulangerie with bread and patisserie as well as delicious cheeses and wine. The butcher, a small Casino supermarket, hair salon, etc. The old école des frères from the XIXth century, in which the flat is located, is at the edge of the village with a lovely garden. There are many hiking trails, and the beautiful river l'Ance flows through the countryside. Every Tuesday there is a market on the village square with delicious local produce. The Montpeloux volcano with its basalt columns is a ten-minute drive away and has concerts under the stars in summer.

We had a fantastic stay at Etoile Viverols! The room was actually a full equipped apartment (modern with details from the original usage - brother school -) and very clean. In a peacefull, historical environment with very friendly and hospitable hosts. In a very small village (but with restaurant, bar, bakery, local supermarket and church ) from were you can make different walks and excursions (within 30 minutes drive). We will absolutely visit Etoile Viverols again (but then for a longer period!).

Restaurants, food & wine
Restaurants in the area often serve local food but of high quality. Relais du Vermont is a cosy restaurant working with local produce, run by a very friendly family. There are a number of restaurants in Craponne sur Arzon but Le Jardin des délices serves several three- or four-course menus changing each time of a high culinary level for a soft price. If one really wants the raclette experience, there is a little restaurant amidst nature called the Droublei where the speciality is Raclette of local cheeses.
For a more upmarket experience, one can go to the Michelin-starred restaurant " M" in Ambert.
Activities
The Livradois-Forez park is an immense and varied natural park covering 320,000 hectares. There are many hiking trails where you can quietly enjoy beautiful flora and fauna
There are also numerous villages and medieval towns with lots of history. Such as La Chaise-Dieux, Puy en Velay, Thiers, etc. Puy en Velay has the fête des Lumières in the summer months, which is well worth a visit.
The cheese route A.O.P leads you to various farms and producers of delicious cheeses such as Cantal, Bleu d' Auvergne, Fourme d'Ambert, etc.The parc d'Activités de Montagne Prabouré is a twenty-minute drive away and has various activities in both winter and summer.
