The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

L'abeille is a quietly located detached house with a private pool and an enclosed garden where pets are welcome. The ground floor consists of a TV room of about 30m2. This room can be heated by a wood-burning stove, but also by an electric heater. There is a corner sofa, Dutch reading books/games and a screen you can cast to from your own device with apps like KPN, Ziggo, Netflix etc. There is free internet through wifi.
The kitchen diner is fully equipped. There is a dishwasher, a Quooker and an original French cooker (Godin).
You can cook on this appliance on gas, the ovens work on electric. The kitchen is equipped with enough kitchen utensils for extensive cooking. There are Dutch cookbooks for inspiration.
Bathroom 1 (approx. 6 m2) has a bath with shower, double washbasin, toilet and a washing machine. Bathroom 2 has a double sink, a walk-in rain shower and a toilet.
The house has 3 bedrooms, each with a double bed, which can be separated into two single beds on request.
For the cold months, all rooms have electric heating. In the summer months, the thick walls block the heat from outside.

The utility room gives access to the veranda and the fenced garden with swimming pool facing south. On the veranda there is a large dining table with seating for 8 people and a lounge table for afternoon drinks or a nightcap. For the colder evenings, there is a butane gas-fired patio heater. For lovers of wood-fired pizza, there is also a home-made pizza oven under the veranda.

In the garden (about 1500 m2) is a fenced swimming pool of about 10 x 4 m2 with a depth of 0.5 to 2 metres, surrounded by a stone terrace with sun loungers. There is a solar outdoor shower. The pool is not heated and open from May until the end of September. On the hill next to the pool is a large bench with a fire pit in the middle for a fire or bbq. The garden is completely fenced.

Pets are welcome, except in the sleeping quarters and the swimming pool.

Good to know that from the start of Covid this is our way of working:
Payment takes place a week before departure and in the unlikely event that the booking still has to be cancelled due to Covid-19 measures, we simply refund the money. The fact that the holiday cannot go ahead is bad enough in that case :)

    Vriendelijke groeten
    Paul en het reisgezelschap

Restaurants, food & wine

In Chatillon en Bazois, there is a pizzeria and regularly, in front of the church, a good pizza foodtruck. In the surrounding area, in Mont-et-Marré, you will find 'Le Beroalde'. A real French, small and unpretentious living room restaurant where the interior and the menu never change. In Alluy you will find 'la Grangée. A small restaurant with an excellent French cuisine with Asian influences. Not cheap but very good and in the high season, booking in advance is recommended. In the town of Chateau Chinon, some 20 km away, there are several restaurants. From there, the Morvan begins and the landscape becomes more hilly and wooded. The first larger town to the east and after Chateau Chinon is Autun. At 40 km west of Chatillon en Bazois is Nevers, the capital of the department 'le Nièvre' with the nearest train station. The town centre of Nevers offers nice shops and restaurants and of course a view of the beautiful Loire. About 20 km to the north is Corbigny, where you will find an excellent pizzeria, Barolino, and where the 'Hotel de l'Europe' is also a good place to eat. You can also eat well at restaurant Le Marode. Further northeast lies Vezelay. A touristy place for this area that is certainly worth a visit. For wine lovers, almost all famous Burgundy wine regions are within an hour to an hour and a half's drive from Ougny; from Chablis, Sancerre, Pouilly-sur-Loire to Vezelay and Givry.

Activities

About 800 km from Utrecht, in the French Bourgogne, is the village of Ougny. Rural, agricultural, wooded and quiet are the words that best characterise this village and its surroundings.

l'Abeille is located in the hamlet of Ougny, about 5 km from the somewhat larger town Chatillon en Bazois where the baker, the butcher and the supermarket can be found. The supermarket is just outside the village, with good parking facilities.
The area is very suitable for walking and also cycling along the (flat) canal is a nice day activity. Bicycles can be hired in Chatillon and Bazois, on the canal at Hello Velo (English speaking). Furthermore, the Yonne can be navigated by kayak at 10 km distance at 'Au fil de l'eau' in the town of Mouron sur Yonne. Highly recommended when the weather is good! Bernadette, who was canonised in 1933, lies in state in the Nevers cloister. Her visions were the reason for the creation of Lourdes as a place of pilgrimage.
And of course, in the surroundings of Ougny, you can find the necessary brocantes and vide greniers via brocabrac.fr or calendrier-des-brocantes.com.
