The house
In a beautiful grand setting, in the middle of a quiet French farming valley, you will find holiday home 'Le Moulin du Saon'. The house was completely renovated in early 2023 with attention to old details to preserve its cosy atmosphere.
The house, suitable for 8 people, has a large (fenced) garden with an open view along which a river flows. The adjacent building is the old water mill and now serves as a barn. Outside is a large picnic table and the BBQ can also be used.
On the ground floor you will find a spacious living room, bathroom with walk-in shower and a fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave oven and fridge/freezer. On the first floor are five bedrooms, of which two master bedrooms with a double bed, two rooms with a single bed and one room with two single beds. There is also an extra toilet upstairs.

The garden is fenced, the stairs have stair gates and there are childproof sockets. Furthermore, a camp bed, high chair, changing mat and toilet-reducer are available on request.
One set of towels and bed linen per person is included in the rental price. There are also various facilities available in the house, such as a flat-screen TV, washing machine, ironing facilities, coffee machine, tea kettle, baguette case, hoover, cleaning equipment, board games and a few small outdoor games. The house is equipped with an air-to-air heat pump that can be used to both heat and cool the house. Almost every room in the house has its own thermostat that can be set in terms of temperature as desired.
Upon arrival at the house, various 'start' basic amenities are provided, think toilet paper, kitchen paper, coffee filters, coffee/tea, salt/pepper, washing-up liquid, hand soap, etc.
Parking is available at the house and there is also possibility to charge an electric car (at extra cost, please contact us).

The region in which this house stands, Normandy, is known to many because of what happened here at the time of World War II.
On 6 June 1944, the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy with a large-scale operation 'Operation overlord', better known as 'D-Day'. There was hard fighting against the German occupiers and many lost their lives from both sides. From here, the Allies advanced further into Europe to finally defeat the occupiers on 8 May 1945 and end the war. A greatest and saddest event that must not be forgotten and lessons must be learned from it today. Lest we forget...
There are many museums and monuments to visit near the house, and don't forget to visit the landing beaches and the American cemetery! A special fact close to this holiday home is, that a few hundred metres from here, British General Montgomery and his men were temporarily stationed in the meadow (Location: QG Montgomery). Remains of ammunition and a German bayonet have been found in the ground around the house.
Normandy has so much more to offer besides history. Among other things, vast beaches, high chalk cliffs, dunes, nature reserves, largest farming valleys, apple orchards and Suisse Normande (Little Switzerland) make it a varied region.
It is a great area for walking, cycling, mountain biking and hiking. You can also go horse riding, climbing and/or a paragliding adventure (Suisse Normande), for example. Not far from Saon, only 10 km away, is a national park and in less than fifteen minutes' drive you are already at the beach or in the cosy city of Bayeux with its many sights. In short, no shortage of varied nature and activities!
